hi all my basil has gone in for his op this morning, he was a little nervous when we got there but thats probably because he had penumonia back in march but has been fighting fit and has gained a lot of weight. my eyes started to well up as soon as i got in the door lol which probably didnt help his nervs any my voice started waivering when i was talking to the nurse. she asked if he had eaten today i said he had had some but she said they will give him a small bowl when she takes him down stairs just to make sure. i am so nervous i feel :)>>> .

When I had my boar neutered I asked for the "statistics" and was told that they lose one boar in more than 100 castration ops. That is a pretty good survival rate. Don't worry.

Any op is a cause for worry. I find the wait particularly awful.

But it sounds like you have a very good vet!

Vibes for Basil and a very happy future!

thanks i will keep you updated they said they will call me around 2-3pm and collection is usualy between 4-5pm depending on the recovery ect. hes gone in with his fave clean cozie from pollie. hope fully by the end of it all he can move in with poppy and zia . p.s even my o/h who realy was cross with me for bringing home yet another pet gave him some snuggles last night lol x

thats my problem the wait i hate waiting for anything lol. i dont think it helped that when my dog was casterated he was coming round from his op and he banged his head cuz he was thrashing about and i couldnt collect him after they had phoned and said i could, i went to collect him and they kept me waiting for half hour before they decided he had to stay over night good job i had my dad with me i cried like a baby . (this is a different vet to where basil is )

It is good that he has got his favourite cosy - I always make sure that mine have one with them; better to come round in something that smells and feels "right"!

I always tell my piggies that I love them and that they will come home again when I say good bye at the vets.

Finges crossed for Basil! I hope all goes well and that those 6 post op weeks will just fly by so that he can live with girlies :)

thank you so do i lol I'm sure basil hopes they will fly by also he realy likes the girls x)

Thinking of you and Basil today, I'm sure that he is in safe hands, the waiting is the worst bit, but try not to worry too much and make a nice comfy cage with extra treats for him when he comes home. :)

Good news

the vets has just rang to say hes all done and is doing brilliantly i can collect him between 1.30pm and 2pm and i just about said thank you and good bye then went 8... which sent the kids in to a panic lol what am i like

hello basil is home with me now has been since 1.50 much to the nurses diss may lol i turned up at 1.35pm and they said he wasnt ready cuz they hadnt finished giving him cuddles :)). hes going back on friday for a check up hes had a nible of some lettuce not much but its a start he hasnt realy moved yet just kind of fidgiting trying to get comfy. the oxbow was alfalfa not timothy hay and was £5.31 i must have been in a right 2 and 8 this morning when i droped him off at 8.15am lol :)

p.s i also got some of the excell dandelion treat rolls they had them at the vets for £1.50 on bogof too :))

Good news indeed!

I hope that Basil does recover well! the first 2-3 days are the hardest as his wounds will hurt him and his body will take some time to settle down after the meds and the op. Do not freak out if there is not much poo and it is funny and if peeing does hurt at first. If basil isn't eating much, you can always mush up pellets in some water and feed that. A bit of parsley usually goes down well.

Once piggies start healing, they will do so amazingly quickly!

update on basil

hi every one basil is realy well today eating and pooing and weeing hes off to the vets in the morning for his check up but so far so good :)

basil check up

hi basil has been for his check up today all is well thank god. the nurse and vet said oh this is the guineapig nobody wanted to put down and every one wanted a cuddle ") the nurse said she isnt actualy a guineapig fan but he was just adorable rolleyes she also said that they need to keep there temps up after an op so it was just another excuse for a cuddle. the nurse and the vet took it in turns to have a cuddle during his visit today but as soon as they put him back on the table he scurried back to the pet carrier lol minus his blanket, wth a look that said please can we go home now mum :)). hes going back again in 7 days for his final check but if I'm worried about him any time before to just come straight back in and not wait for his appointment.
