I was told by a vet that feeding guinea pigs too much nuggets has a lot of calcium in and I should only give them a tablespoon of nuggets so I started switching them to muesli or is this just in p@h food? As this was what I brought when I first had my piggies right now, but I want to sign up to a monthly subscription thing on Amazon and was wondering if the burgess excel nuggets of all flavours have a lot of calcium and if it will harm them or should I just moderate it on their age? My guinea pigs are nearly 5 months if this helps they get fresh veg everyday too and also lots of hay but I want make sure I'm getting a good type of food for pigs
Well my piggies have one and a half handfuls of nuggets per pair of piggies every day. They have P@H nuggets and Nibbles has been on them since he was a baby and is now six and a half with no calcium related issues at all. It very much depends on what you are happy with but I am confident that what I give my boys is right for them and they are healthy and happy that way.
Muesli is not healthy for guinea pigs as it contains a lot of added things which are not good for them such as seeds. I use Burgess Excell nuggets and mine love them. I give two bowls between five. I have never heard of them containing too much calcium before.
