Nugget's Not Well

Every year my little guinea pig Nugget gets colds which go to his chest and he gets very ill. The vet just gives him medicine every time and he gets better but I was wondering if there is any treatment that will protect him permantly or make him a bit more immune. It worries me so much to see him ill and it gets really expensive. Please Help!

Hi Amy. The only thing I can think of is extra vitamin c. Half a chewable vitamin c daily. Don't crush and add to water and it will then lose its strengh.
 
Has he been xrayed and investigated for heart issues? A common symptoms of heart problems is recurrant respiratory infections.

What is his living situation and diet like? Maybe some adjustments to those can help prevent him falling ill.
