Ever since I have had guinea pigs, I have always fed Wagg guinea pig crunch and had no problems.

For the last 4 years, I have provided a bowl of Wagg and a bowl of nuggets for my girls to eat. As they get board of nuggets, I swap and change ranging from Excel, pets at home, Harringtons and Science Selective.

However, I am finding that their nuggets are starting to go either untouched or slightly nibbled at whatever brand they have. I am having to refill their Wagg bowl in the evening and the nuggets are being thrown away.

I like the idea of them having nuggets in their diet but as I am throwing most of them away, I am wondering if I should just ditch the nuggets altogether and just feed them the Wagg? If so, would I just stop giving them the nuggets?

I have also tried mixing the nuggets in with the Wagg but they still leave them mallethead

As Ellie is finally starting to put weight back on after her recent weight loss, I would rather not risk feeding them nuggets only in the hope they will eat it when they are hungry.

Do they eat all of the wagg mix?

xx

(sorry about the other thread earlier, it wasn't a dig at you atall, you made a fair comment, i was just trying to make a point)

Yes, they eat most of the wagg mix.

Don't be daft :) I know it wasn't a dig at me, I wasn't either. I personally think that thread should be closed now as it is going off topic and getting peoples backs up. I just feel sorry for the guinea pig xx

It seems a shame to keep wasting the nuggets, they aren't cheap! I think if they wouldn't have a nugget only diet, stick to the wagg and dont bother with the nuggets x

xx

That's what I'm thinking. In an ideal world, they would have nuggets only but Connie came with wagg when I had her and it carried on with the piggies I have now. They used to eat both so it's a shame xx

I would feed them what they eat. I bet they have veggies anyway so muesli/nuggets are just sort of a back up. When we were kids 55 years ago, there was no guinea pig food. Ours were fed oats, ryvitas, and toasted crusts. As well as straw and veggies. Most of mine were 5 when they died.

Thanks :) yes, they have fresh veggies morning and evening and handfuls of hay. I think I will use up the nuggets I have and then stick to the Wagg.

It's like children - offer them sweets or a plate of vegetables and what will they choose? :))

Dave and Maggie has a mix of muesli and nuggets in their bowls (bowl plural because Maggie is a bit of a bowl hog!) and I find that she does eat the nuggets (the B&O ones anyway) when offered a mix of both, but won't eat the nuggets if offered them without the muesli. She's a real muesli monster!

Mine have P@H nuggets and refuse cereal based feed, in fact they adore nuggets, one of them used to crunch one then get a mouthful of water to wash it down :)

Jeff does this :))

So I'm mean...and put the water bottle and bowl at opposite ends of the cage to get his little fat bum moving :))

I've recently done this to my girls.. When Liquorice was here, I made life as easy for her as possible, due to her health problems.. now though, with Humbug being a tad 'fat' i've now put the water bottle at the other end of the cage... insert 'evil grin' here ;)

i also had nuggets and wagg but they wouldn't touch the nuggets, think its just more tastier so if they prefer it i will give it to them x simples
