to cut long story short, my piggies prefer pets at home nuggets rather than Burgess Excel.
is this okay? or is Burgess Excel much better?

I did wonder if it was the shape that they didnt like. Might try Supreme Science Selective :)
 
I also recommend Wagg Optimum (though they've been rebranded to Harringtons now - same pellets, though). Even I think they smell yummy. :)
 
Mine went collectively off Burgess Excel about a year ago and prefer pets@home over Wagg Optimum. I give a mix of them all now and that seems to do the trick! rolleyes

the one thing that speaks against Burgess is that they mush up very quickly - ideal if you have an ill piggies but not ideal for grinding down back teeth.

ah yes I did notice about the mushing up!

and my pigs use to eat it and now wont touch it. its rather strange. But p@h ones they go crazy for. I guess as long as they are getting their share of vit C is all i am concerned about :)
