Junior Guinea Pig
Our new guinea pig, Bacon, is about two and a half years old. He is underweight, and it might be his time soon. He just peed on the carpet, and it was reddish tinted. Help!
He doesn't squeak before he pees, but he's barely eating, and on another thread I had, piggyfan said he might be sick, I believe you are also right, and I'll try to get a vet and keep a close eye on Bacon. It could be a UTI. Get him booked in at the vets as soon as you can. If so it is easily treated. It may be worth getting him xrayed though to rule out a stone. Is he squeaking when peeing? What is his weight?

I don't think he's in pain anymore. He is starting to get better after yesterday, and is eating a bit more. He's new to us and might have been homesick. If he is barely eating he needs to see a vet quickly, as he could easily go into gut stasisPlease get him to a vet & tell them about his wee & not eating. He is likely to be in some pain if he has a urine infection, which will affect his eating. You need to start syringe feeding him now as well. Have you hand fed piggies before or do you need advice on what to do?
Bacon had a previous owner, but because she couldn't take care of him, we took him in. He might be upset for losing his owner, but when sprite squeaks happily, he follows. The discoloration in pee could also be from lack of water. His bottle was empty for a few days before we got him.How many days have you had Bacon? A new piggy should start to eat within a day or two, evn if it is just when nobody is there. Not eating is generally a major alarm sign and needs to be taken seriously and addressed promptly. if you suspect a piggy to be in pain, you also need to see a vet. Please weigh any piggy whose food intake or health you are worried about on a daily instead of a weekly basis.

His pee can have been discoloured from veg like peppers or carrot, but it
can also be the beginnings of a UTI, a urinary tract infection. In adult piggies, it can also be a sign of a potential bladder stone.
