Hello,
My Guinea pig Belarus is four and has recently had a vet checkup. She occasionally wheezes at night and for a little while after she wakes up, but never during the day.
The wheezing is infrequent, less than once a month. Last time this happened, I thought she had something stuck in her throat and she has been completely fine since that one night.

I'm wondering if this occurence could be because I recently did not have time to make it to the pet store and had to buy cheap hay to cover for a few days (I usually use very good hay but I ran out early). This hay is softer than the usual hay and i just reached the bottom of the bag. Is this simply a dust allergy?
(I believe last time this happened she was also at the bottom of a bag of different hay.)
Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the forum.
You are probably right about the hay but a vet check is always a good plan if you’re concerned.

Did your vet say anything about the wheezing when Belarus had her check?

Yes I think it will be dusty hay that’s making her wheeze. If you are at all concerned have her vet checked.

No, but she wheezed at night once or twice before she saw the vet and when I went in I asked her to check it out. We agreed that since it was so short-lived, she probably just got something stuck in her throat.
