My female guinea pig is just over 5 years old. Usually very active, runs around her cage, eats all of her food daily and squeaks when any of us go near her.
Yesterday was a different story and it has continued into today. She has a tunnel in the sheltered part of the Hutch that she won’t leave even when fresh veg is put in the normal place downstairs (she loves that!).
In herself she is reasonably bright, she does lift her head when you come in. Initially slowly I may add but I’ve put hay and her favourite veg in front of her which she is eating. The veg she ate really quickly, the hay she is slowly nibbling at. I watched her move yesterday and her legs feel fine, her breathing doesn’t seem laboured. She does feel a little skinnier but she isn’t eating as much.
I will take her to the vets tomorrow but I am reluctant to take her away from her comforts if the vet is likely to tell me that this is it.
Anybody else seen this type behaviour before and if so what happened? (I am prepared to be told that this could be end of life so please say so if that’s your experience).
Thanks
