Several minutes ago I made a post about the noises my guinea pig was making in the behavior section, but hearing it get more intense makes me believe that there may be breathing issues. The noise is short and medium pitched. At certain points it becomes more raspy and louder, almost sounding like a mild goose honk. I got this piggie today and everything was fine for about four hours in her new cage before this started happening.

It sounds as if your new guinea pig has come home after getting an upper respiratory infection from where she came from. She needs to see a vet. Depending on where you got her from, it's worth talking to them about the problems she's having and requesting assistance. Watch carefully to be sure she's drinking and eating. If she begins to seem she is not doing either, losing weight, sitting in a corner or able to be picked up and held easily without moving from you in the cage, she is showing signs of it becoming critical.

She will need to be hand fed if it comes to that point. In the morning, try calling around to vets.
I've been in the position you are in as a new owner and I am very sorry for the stress it can cause the both of you.

Please let us know how she is.

Thank you so much for responding. Fortunately, I seemed to be overreacting. Bernadette is new to shavings bedding and simply got something up her nose. She sneezed it out and has been fine all day today. In fact, she is running about and popcorning as I'm typing this. I was just being a paranoid piggie mom. :lose::P

I am so happy to hear that's all it was! That's really great news. Congratulations on your new happy and healthy little one! Please put pics when you can and keep up here with everyone on your new baby :-).
