Hey! I've got a peculiar problem(?) on my hands. For the past two days my 6yo boar has had a strange pooping pattern.

Sunday night he pooped a TON, way more than I'm used to seeing at once. On Monday (yesterday), he barely pooped at all and what came out looked a little small and mucus-y (he was still very active and happily munching on hay throughout the day). And then this morning, he once again pooped like crazy (almost 50 poops at once) and all the poops look big and perfectly shaped.

We started feeding him a new brand of pellets last Thursday, so right now we're guessing that maybe it has messed with his digestion a bit and we're holding off on feeding him more of it. But is there anything else that could be wrong? I was ready to take him to the vet this morning, but now that he's had this latest round of great-looking poops I'm not so sure anymore.

Mucus poops and gaps in pooping suggest there could be something going on in his gut.
It could still be worth getting a vet to check him out

I would advise you to switch to daily weight checks so you can monitor hay intake more closely

Definitely remove the pellets, it could be them that have cause this - any change to the diet could cause a disruption particularly to an older piggy whose digestive systems don’t always work as well.
(New pellets need to be introduced slowly over 7-10 days by gradually changing the ratio between old and new pellets until they are fully on the new ones).
