Hi everyone,
My Guinea-pig (Winston) is doing an odd twitch when I gently scratch him, he's also making a puring noise at the same time. I'm just wondering if he's enjoying the scratch or if he's not enjoying it. Thanks,
Jack

Hi Jack, you are probably tickling him :))

Depends on the purring noise. If it is a short sharp brrrrrrrr then that is a sound of annoyance. Our pigs do it at the sound of anything jingling like keys etc....

Thanks for the guidance, it's not a short sharp brrrrrr, it's a fairly long one. Does this mean that he likes being tickled?
Thanks

Hard to say without hearing it :))

I am working on a guinea pig sound file at moment....

Guinea pigs can be tickled? THAT EXPLAINS SO MUCH. Ours do short purrs specially for knocks at the door, or the phone ringing- sounds like they're trying to imitate it!

Looking into it, it's not only if I scratch him. It's when I purley stroke him. Looking at some "What guinea pig sounds mean". I think it's an annoyance noise. This was around 5 mins ago - Dropbox - Voice 001.m4a

Sorry jack, missed this. Let me load up my laptop

Yes, that is annoyance, the sharp brrrrrr and the chattering is mild annoyance but he is confident enough and bonded enough with you to tell you

try and find somewhere e likes been stroked or petted. For example Sarsaparilla will moan and brrrrr at any petting apart from chin rubs under her chin gently with one finger. Other piggies like a little head rub, some behind the ears it is trial and error. i am yet to meet a piggy that likes a full on stroke

Okay, thank you.
My other piggy, Phillip, seems to like it between the ears! :xd:
I'll keep trialing with Winston, thanks again.
