Following on from this thread http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=71823 the piggies are off to the vets tomorrow :(

I checked through Eliza's fur again this afternoon and she has 3 scabs all on her back. I then checked Eleanor and she has a small one on her back :( Erin and Ena appear to have none although Ena's fur isn't easy to look through.

So.... Eleanor and Eliza are off to the vets in the morning. I am wondering if I should take Erin and Ena as well considering they all live together?

Apart from the scabs, the girls seem happy enough. The area around the scabs is normal and there is no fur loss and hardly any scratching. The scabs look more like dried up blood but I don't want to mess to much.

HI, yes I would take all four of them, the reason being if they have burrowing mites which we cannot see, the vet can treat them all together. I had this problem with my piggies I only took the 2 which had scabs then ended up taking the other 2 aswell so it cost me double in consultation fees. The vet said if I had taken all four together I would have only been charged one consultation fee.

On that note I hope all goes well xxxxx

If it was me, I would take all of them, just in case the vet needs to take a look at all of them for some reason :) Hope all goes well for you

Well, we are now back from the vet. The vet says that the scabs do not look like scabs due to fungus and mites and more like pigment of the skin. However, they haven't been there before and when the fur is tugged around the scabs, it comes out with a bit of 'scab' or fur attached.

She said I could either leave it and see how they go or have them treated for mites to be on the safe side. As we are going away at the beginning of August for a week, I would rather get it sorted now so all 4 girls are having mite treatment. Eleanor and Eliza are having a weeks course of Baytril just in case they have an infection. The vet has also taken some of Eliza's fur around on of the scabs to test it for anything else. I think she is trying to cover everything. If I leave it, knowing my luck they'll all be poorly when we are due to go away and the animal boarding hotel doesn't take in rabbits and piggies if they have a skin problem due to the possibility of it spreading which is perfectly understandable.

If it is mites, it is in the very early stages.

All 4 girls are now tucking in to a late breakfast and I'm in Eleanor and Eliza's bad books for giving them nasty medicine.

Sorry to hear about this Claire :(
