Hi everyone,

We are off to the vet at 5pm with Pebbles and Porche following the bleeding and suspected UTI/Cystitis.

Our usual vet Molly isn't in today so we're seeing another exotic vet (according to the receptionist) so please wish us luck!

We are still saving up to treat Pringles cyst so that will be very soon, we are taking it one step at a time!

I will be sure to update you when we are home.

Good Luck, I hope everything goes well.

Thank you all, we've just got home with them.

The vet was quite stumped at the fact Pebbles is bleeding as she doesn't have any stones or abnormalities, and he said if her uterus was infected then she would be very poorly or even dead right now.

He had a good feel around Porche's stomach, needless to say the poor thing squeaked the vets down as he made her wee and it all came out in one (I'm sure you're aware that weeing in large amounts is very painful with cystitis) , which by the way, cystitis was confirmed.

They are both on 0.5ml Baytril twice daily and 0.2ml Metacam once daily which should help Porche and will rule out infection with Pebbles, but if not, Pebbles will need to be opened up to see what's going on.

Fingers crossed these meds work! I understand that Septrin is the preferred drug for these kinds of things but this is an exotic vet and I'm sure he prescribed the Baytril for a valuable reason. It's the stronger 2.5% one!

He didn't, no. We have some Pro C left however, so I will pop some in their water!

Just as a thought - What is the maximum length of time Baytril can be used for? I'm a bit annoyed with myself for not requesting the Septrin. I don't think Baytril for 10 days will be enough and was wondering if I could maybe administer it for a longer length of time if it meant clearing up the infections.

dont know about that. Will you syringe the proc?If you put it in the normal water may put them off drinking. Is proc a powder or a liquid?

Pro C is a powder. When I put it into their water they drink almost a full bottle, they adore it!

Has Pebbles been ultrasounded as well as x-rayed? if he wants to open her up?

If you are unsure about the treatment give the vets a call and ask to speak to Molly. I'm sure she can answer your questions.

Yes I believe she has been ultrasounded! I was hoping to have seen Molly today but she wasn't available. This vet is said to be an exotic vet so he must of given Baytril for one reason or another!

.. Does anyone know how long it is before I start to see improvements? Just gave them their second dose, they hate the taste as suspected! Got a bit on their chin but they've cleaned it off and ate it :P. Added some Pro C to their water today too!

Update 4/04/14
Well it's been 7 days now since the girls started on their Baytril and Metacam - I've just cleaned them out and Porche did a wee, I'm pretty sure she didn't make a sound.. eeep! I don't want to talk to soon though, but the best thing was, they were overdue on their Metacam aswell so it would of worn off and she still didn't squeak. However, Porche's wee was still a milky colour and one of her poops had white on them but possibly it was just her wee?

A bit of bad news for Pebbles though, unfortunately the Baytril hasn't worked for her and neither did the Septrin that she was on a few weeks back, so it looks like she may have to have a spay afterall, on top of Pringles ovarian cyst being sorted. I am hoping so much that Porche is back to herself by Monday (that's when their antibiotics end). If not, we will be back at the vets for a second dose.

14/04/14.

Well, the antibiotic course ended today. Unfortunately Pebbles has been bleeding again which means we are left with no option other than to have her opened up to see what's going on inside. I am worried sick :(

I don't want to speak too soon, but fortunately I THINK Porche's UTI has cleared up, I am definitely hoping it has.

I am sorry poor Pebbles is still bleeding. I hope the procedure goes well.

Sorry to hear about Pebbles. I hope all goes okay there.

Maybe worth asking regarding Septrin this time for Porche as it is quite widely used for Bladder infections and has a good success rate.
