My old man, Chipychanga, is now 7 years old and he has had two teeth surgeries, the last one was in January I believe. This morning I noticed he is again having difficulty picking up his food and chewing. His eyes have been runny lately and he's puffed up.

I weighed him and he's down to 2.3 lbs which is low for him. Back in May he was 2.7 lbs and holding. I called his regular Vets but they don't have anyone to see him today.

So I called a different Vets and they will see him at 2pm. I'm nervous but also hoping this Vet will have more experience. Chipy's old vet has gone on Mat Leave and a new one was in her place but she didn't seem to have as much experience. I didn't like how she put my guinea pig, Ping, to sleep. he squealed in pain and I"m still upset by it.

Please send vibes that Chipy can have his teeth fixed and live longer. I love him so much and have never been this bonded to a piggie. I noticed today one of his lower teeth is missing. Poor old man. He also has grey hair now.

It's so hard when they get old.

He's lovely x) What a handsome old boy.

Sorry to hear of your experience with Ping, that must have been very upsetting for you.

It will be worth weighing Chippy everyday so you can see how much he is eating, and maybe worth getting in some Critical care to syringe feed him while he is struggling to eat.

Sending Chippy lots of healing vibes and hoping something can be done to sort his teeth out, good luck at the vets. x

Thank you! And Chipychanga thanks you too. He is scheduled for teeth surgery on Saturday. It's his left molar that has a large burr on it and needs to be clipped down or it will grow into his tongue. He was a good boy at the Vets and enjoyed me scratching his ears. lol.

I will definitley be monitoring his weight. He is eating grated carrots and fresh grass right now. I still make all his food quite small so it's easier for him to eat. Apparently his jaw is completely misaligned. :( The Vet was pretty shocked by it.

oh nooooooooooooo CHIPY :...:(

He's such a darling boy xoxo

Hi, sport_billy,

Yes it was quite traumatic with Ping. I miss him everyday. He was such a fun little guy. He was always popcorning! Thank you for your post.

HI Everyone,

This morning Chipychanga is off to the Vets to have his teeth done again. Please please keep him in your thoughts. I'm super nervous. It is a different Vet doing his teeth and he is going under anesthetic again. I pray he'll be fine and have a speedy recovery.

I've really noticed in the last week how much he is slowing down with age. He is sleeping so much. But he is still managing to eat and is alert when he is awake but I can really tell he is an old guy now.

thanks.

Thanks just dropped him off at the Vets. I should hear back in a couple hours. I feel stressed out and cranky. I hate having him so thru this. :(

I stressed to them to not cut his front incisors really short or he won't be able to pick up his food properly. I said only a millimeter off them or less. He doesn't even have his two bottom teeth right now. They keep falling out or breaking off. I dont' know why. Except maybe it has to do with his age. :(

I wouldn't even let them cut his nails because I cut them and I worry they would cut them too short and they would be sore for Chipy. I'm so overprotective!
