Ellie has made the occasional 'hooting' sound over the last couple of months which I thought could be down to dusty hay or a uri. She was cleared of a uri and I would have thought if it was that, it would have got worse. She has no other symptoms and is eating and drinking well. She is a little thinner than what I'd like but this is down to lump removal she had at the end of August.

I was watching her breath earlier and put a video on fb as I can't put it here for some reason (thank you to anyone who has commented). I've been thinking too much about heart conditions etc which has concerned me. She was only at the vets last week for nail trimming and check ups and he wasn't concerned but obviously things can change. I'm worried about her needing an x ray as she has already been under once for her surgery :(

Anyway, I have just rang my vet to make an appointment for tomorrow and they have requested to see her this afternoon after I explained I was concerned she had laboured breathing :(

Hope it all goes well, lots of healing vibes for Ellie, let us know how she gets on x

Aw sorry hun, i hope you are worrying over nothing, hugs and healing vibes to Ellie, Fingers crossed here xx

I sincerely hope that it is just a false alarm and that all is OK with Ellie!

Aw, all paws crossed here for Ellie xx>>>
We saw an exotic vet on Monday as our older girl showed no improvement after a course of Baytril for a suspected URI - she's now on Loxicom (anti inflammatory) Bisolvon to help mucus and Marbocyl which appears to be helping but still early days.
Keep us posted - always best to go armed with info as our vet just wanted to extend the abx, you know your piggy best so don't be afraid to explore avenues if you're not happy :)
Good luck and will be thinking of you and Ellie x>>

Thank you all. She is booked in at 2.35pm.

I have had a niggling suspicion that something isn't quite right for a while now even though my vet could find nothing wrong last week. Something could have changed since then though. I appreciate everyones advice so thank you :)

Haha I know what you mean! I took my dog to work with me once, and got the vet to look at him. "What's wrong with him?" "I don't know, he just doesn't look right...his eye"....couldn't work it out, couldn't find anything wrong.

2-3 days later, he had a cyst come up on his eye lid - I got 10/10 for being an observant owner!

Fingers crossed the vet can give you some answers this afternoon Claire. Hugs to you and Ellie x

Good luck Ellie, I hope that it is just a false alarm and that you are OK :)
Hugs for your mummy too, it's not fun! :(

Thank you everyone

Just back from the vets and Ellie is fine. Airways, lungs and nose are clear and her heart sounds normal. I made sure to ask about her heart as that is what I was mainly worried about. It looks like it could be an allergy or something. Dusty hay or damp weather perhaps? She has lost 200g since her surgery in August but we don't know how much the four lumps weighed. She has gone from 1170g to 970g. I am to take her back in 2 - 3 weeks time just for a recheck and reweigh.

Amanda, I have been there so many times when there hasn't been anything technically wrong mallethead

Glad to hear she's ok! Better safe than sorry...at least you can sleep soundly tonight :))

How do you feed them hay? Jeff had problems and I found feeding hay on the floor was better, and solved the problem, than feeding from a hay rack.

It sure is. I have seen so many animals who have been taken to the vet once it is too late, I could never do that to mine. They have hay in their lazybones houses as bedding and barn dried grass or Timothy in their hay balls.

I'm very pleased to read Ellie is doing ok, does she like porridge oats as I find these quite useful in the winter months to put on a few extra grams ;)

She doesn't like them dry nor does she like bran mash like the others do mallethead May be I could try soaking the oats in warm water?

I have readigrass that she loves but obviously they can't eat too much mallethead

Damn it! You could try that and see if she likes it?
