My 2 year old piggie has suddenly developed a large lump under her chin.
She's fairly porky so it isn't easily obvious.
I notice she also has a wet tummy - as if she's sitting in her wee or something.
She's eating:(|), chattering and waddling around as much as ever so doesn't seem to be ill.
Doesn't bode well, though...:...

Sorry to hear that you've found a lump on your little piggy. It's completely understandable that you're so worried but at least she doesn't appear to be in any pain. Hopefully the Vet can give you a better idea of what's going on - fingers crossed it'll be good news x

I'm no expert but is it possible that she might have a UTI or something like that, just as a coincidence? It might not necessarily be anything linked to the lump. Or could it perhaps be that she's dribbling her drink and getting wet that way?

Hi Missy. I wondered about UTI but she has been on my lap a lot today and in between eating and dozing has done several 'bullets' and a couple of big wees on me. There was nothing in her behaviour that gave me the impression she was in pain or uncomfy when she did the wee so I wondered if that means it's not UTI ... It's defo urine that made her wet and I washed her down.

My hormonal Queen Pig was hassling ehr a bit today (keeps trying to mount and I mean really mount hermallethead) which is why I kept her with me so much:)! She's now in the cage on her own for some quiet eating before I bring the others in.

I've seen lots of posts about fatty lumps etc and hope that's all it is.

(She is a porky girl though!;))

Yes, hopefully it's a harmless lump. If it's any consolation, I've heard that Cancer is relatively uncommon in guinea pigs so fingers crossed for good news.

Has she had a lot of diuretic food that may have caused her to wee more than usual? Dandelions or lots of lettuce/cucumber perhaps? Is she moving around as much as usual? If she is lying around in her wee a lot then regular washing is a very good idea, as you've been doing, to prevent urine scald.

Let us know how you get on on Monday x

Hi
I found a lump in my Guinea pigs neck a couple of weeks ago, the vet drained it and confirmed it was an abscess that was easily treated with Baytrill, shes good as new now, hope it all goes ok. xx

Thanks CArly and co

I'm not worried so much now I'm over the shock. If that makes sense. Just hoping that it is easy to put right. Not relishing the idea of baytrilling her :{ but if that's what she needs for a total recovery...x)

Hiya
My piggy liked the Baytrill, although ive heard it tastes really bad, the vet advised me to mix it with equal amounts of ribena to sweeten the taste and was not really an issue once i had done it once, she also said that it had been caused from the other Guinea Pig, they had not been getting on and she also had some scrapes on her face which were treated with some antiseptic wash, it may be worth checking her over for any signs of injury.
The vet drained the lump to confirm what it was so i had to keep her really still whilst she stuck the needle in which was a bit stressful, then i gave her the baytrill for a week, i have to say though the lump didnt go altogether until a couple of days after the antibiotics finished, shed fighting fit now.
Let me know how you get on wont you. xx

Thanks for that. NOw I can go in a bit better prepared...

(I might have to ask a nurse to hold my pig while I wait outside. I am SO squeamish it's unbelieveable.@)

I hope the vet visit goes well, lumps can be so variable and do need a thorough hands-on examination and where possible a needle apsiration to determine the contents of the lump.

When she had a urine-soaked underside, did it smell strong or just like normal pee?

There hasn't been anymore wee on her tum, so I wonder if she'd been lying in it :)>>> out of laziness... It didn't smell.

Vet did stick the needle in her lump and was able to drain a lot of pus. Said there was too much to be able to clear so she needs an op :( which she's having on Wed.

She was very barve at the vets and very sweet natured, even when she did have the needle shoved in her neck. When the vet looked in her mouth all she could see was food! That's my Snowdrop!xx>>>

So fingers crossed for Wed. Vet reckos it'll cost at least £150.:x

Good luck for Wednesday. From that price I would assume they are removing the entire abscess, and not just lancing and draining it!

Snowdrop was put down last night. Her absess had refilled and got bigger before 24 hours were up and there were concerns about her.

I'm surprisingly OK - I suppose I know I've done the kindest thing for her.

Thanks for your best wishes everyone. They weren't wasted. (And I can rest knowing that she ate a good last supper!).rolleyesxoxoxx>>>

AWWW that's sad. I'm glad you know you did the best for her you could, she will have known too.

RIP Snowdrop....
