Wheekallweek
Adult Guinea Pig
Have you tried a bit of grass? Never had a piggy who didn’t love it!
Thankfully the vets are really good , they have 4 with exotic experience / expertise. I can go up to 1ml but it was decided we would try a slightly lower dose 1st?
Yes sorry I am adding pro-c & fibreplex to the feeds.
I have sweet gem, romaine, butterhead, cucumber, baby corn, red pepper & the favs parsley & coriander x
This is a very good sign. But Fozzy might get very annoyed. When I see this I know my piggy is on the mendThe last feed I’ve been doing is 10 and the first is about 5.45.
Of course -
5:45 - Paracetamol 0.5ml & 0.16 cisapride
8:45 (8 on a work day) metoclop 0.8ml & 0.8ml metacam (dog)
2pm - paracetamol 0.5ml (this may have to slip to 4 if I have to stay at work all day)
6pm - cisapride 0.16ml
8pm - metacam 0.8ml
10pm - paracetamol 0.5ml & metoclop 0.8ml
Thanks, I feel more human after a nap & washed my hair. I really appreciate every word of support!
He is also bothering Fozzy for his poops, recently taking them straight from the “source”?
I haven’t, ours is terrible but I should be able to find a few blades. Will go foraging, I did get him a couple of dandelion leaves but they’re on the turn so had to be careful with those! ThanksHave you tried a bit of grass? Never had a piggy who didn’t love it!
Will try upping it then, thankfully he doesn’t mind that one! The metoclop is a fight to get in him!Yes, you can. The lower dose is obviously not quite enough. See whether that does the trick. If needed, you can go up safely even further from what we have seen in terms of vet prescriptions (weight adjusted).
PS: If you have access to dog pee-free grass, then I second it. Please introduce it carefully if your piggy is not used to it.

However fresh herbs like coriander/cilantro or parsley will also go down fine as appetisers.
Is it? I was worried it was bad? Ha ha I know, I would get annoyed but thankfully he is normally such a placid pig & goes with the flow where Bramble is concerned! It’s an unconventional relationship between them but it works xThis is a very good sign. But Fozzy might get very annoyed. When I see this I know my piggy is on the mend![]()
Ha ha you want to be pleased I’m not near you ha ha! Aww gutted though xShame you’re not near us, we’ve got tons of the stuff![]()
Yes. When I’ve had a poorly piggy once they are chasing the bottom of their cage mate I’m happy. Is it? I was worried it was bad? Then I’m happy too! Fozzy, not so muchYes. When I’ve had a poorly piggy once they are chasing the bottom of their cage mate I’m happy.

I will probably be able to get him a few blades of grass! Thanks for the the link! He was at the bowl there, didn’t eat much but at least he was there? Have you had experience of pigs taking a while to get their full appetite back after some sort of pain episode?
I do feel sorry for the “Donor Pig”. But so far they have always been “ok” with it.Then I’m happy too! Fozzy, not so much![]()
yeah you are right there, pleased I went with the X-rays & ultrasound as well as bloods. Would never have guessed he had arthritis in his knees? And for it to hit so suddenly? Though think his humping session set it some sort of flare up perhaps? It depends on the pain, what is causing it, and how well the piggy responds. It is not a snap your fingers and there is just one safe recipe that works for all; a vet's work is more often like a country cop having to solve a crime with very limited resources (including medications).
I know it is extremely tough especially for anxiety sufferer having to try and ride things out. Give it at least a day or two and see how it goes.
Ha ha like that the donor pig, saves me from getting it for the poop soup! They’re such funny creatures, love them so much! xI do feel sorry for the “Donor Pig”. But so far they have always been “ok” with it.

HI, thanks so much for asking. He seems much better, touch wood! The vets want to start ramping back his meds though, obviously know it needs to happen but it is scary! He lost 3g but that isn't really a loss is it? Hope you are well? xHow is Bramble doing today?

Not sure he does anything smallNo, that is just the weight a small pee.![]()
BUT I have just weighed him there (know I shouldn’t have) & he has lost 30g from this morning! I am panicking! He has done ALOT of poops, a lot more than normal. Help! xYay brilliant news! Very well done Bramble![]()
I don’t know why I did it so I’ve only got myself to blame! Thanks very much! The vet wants me to reduce the metoclop today anyway? His poops are quite wide too! He’s literally never stopped eating all day so that was a surprise to see it lower! Thanks again xHis weight in the evening will be different to his weight in the morning so don’t worry about that. The fact he is pooping so well is a great sign that plenty of food is moving through.
The morning weights are the ones that really matter x
There must have been 60-70 from half a day & they’re massive! Thanks so much, just wouldn’t want to miss something after he’s done so well x30g is not a weight loss, it's a pile of poop!
Weight is not considered loss until it's over 50g.

Inner bin lorryHe's just emptied his inner bin lorry. Metoclopramide stimulates the muscles of wall of the intestines so it can end up in bigger deliveries.
Please rejoice in seeing a big load of fat, healthy poos because that means that his gut is working very nicely indeed.
PS: Try to curb your anxiety hovering because the more often you weigh, the more the weight will jump around. Because a piggy with a fully and an empty tummy and bladder can weigh up to 40g more or less, the only time you get a reliable weight is first thing in the morning before the first feed - and that is for day to day comparison. Any other weigh-ins will only feed your anxiety.

Yes he certainly is on the poop front & it looks like it on the eating too? Dropped it tonight so we’ll see how we get on! Thanks xIf he’s pooping and eating well, which it sounds like he is, then yes I would go with what the vet has suggested![]()
Ha ha that inner bin lorry quote made me laugh, thank you! Certainly what I need to get rid of it all!
