I have a confession to make and am very sorry but today I went to P@H to buy some cat food and whilst there saw two piggies in the adoption centre. They were females and had the usually "no one wanted to buy us spiel". Anyway I collared one of the young men there and questioned him and he said that they were about 20 wks and that they had both had babies and then continued to say that they had been given by the breeder that supplied p@h with their babies. Soooo I asked to hold one and picked the Aby who went mental and squeaked really loudly. I asked if they had been handled and he said no they had babies so we left them with the babies until they were old enough and then they have been put in here. OMG what was I to do! I thought I would just get them and if my OH went mad worry about it later. Soooo to cut a long story short we now have two more sows, who we have called Florence and Amy. They had have had some food and a run around the run and are now in a hutch placed above my other girls. Once they have got a bit more confident in being handled and we have come to learn abit more about their personalities I am going to introduce them to my girls. And I promise I am not going to cross the threshold of that pit of temptation again! But hey the piggies are gonna get loved!

Awww lovely .... I fell into the PAH adoption centre trap last year too .... its a dangerous place to go near and I have to avoid the place now :)) but I havent regretted getting them for one minute despite one of mine having serious dental issues - I'm glad Ive got them rolleyes so I know how you feel and I'm really glad your new piggys have got a safe home with you after having their babies.

Love to see pigtures when theyve settled in :)

xx

Hey, I know it isn't the best thing for the piggy population in general adopting piggies from p@h but the way I see it is you're clearly a responsible owner, and the girls are going to have a fab life with you, with lots of love and attention soooooo perhaps that cancels out the not so good bit a little... I dunno, but if I had the room for more piggies and was in your situation I'd do the same x>>

Cheers for your support, will be posting some piccies once they are settled.

Oohhh dear i know that feeling (i ended up with harvey and artie) :) Your new girls sound beautiful cant wait for pigtures :)x

I went to the pet shop yesterday to get some bits and it was the same shop that I reserved 2 male piggies before choosing to go the rescue route. Anyway, the 2 I had reserved were still there, in a small cage with no hay and just a pigloo stuck in the middle. I was so tempted to buy the poor things!

Thankyou one is An Abyssinian who we have called Florence and she is brown and ginger or should I say auburn? The other is Black and white smooth coat she is much smaller and she is now called Amy as we think she looks like Amy Winehouse with all the eyeliner! Eventually I would like to get all the girls together and take a family portrait! Maybe even attempt me holding Zapp the male but he does get excited and very vocal when he is anywhere near the girls cages! understandably I suppose they are all beautiful.

P.s Hope their settling in well, and dont forget to keep an eye on them for the next few days/weeks (id suggest quarentine for a little while) as PAH is known for very ill piggies, Artie came from the adoption center with an URI and eye infection he was so ill me and the vet thought we were going to lose him:( Hope your girlies are okay though!

Cant wait for pigtures drool

Oh no! that is sooo awful well I saw one little girl baby on her own bless her and they said they had others but they were only delivered today and had to wait 6 days for them, yeah right! Then I spotted these two and asked are they boys or girls and the chap said boys, I should have left there! But I ventured over and saw the sign giving two girl names so I looked for him and asked to see them, Fatal! Am hoping to introduce them to the other two girls but want them to get their confidence first and also become more calmer about being handled. P.s get our chickens this weekend how mental are we! One extreme to another! You must visit when we are all settled! and bring your daughter too I have a son who is nearlly 5 and a daughter of 10.

Yes have kept the two of them separate for the moment to until they are settled also my other two girls have just moved into their new palace and don't want to change it again by introducing two more girls too quickly. thankyou for the tip will watch them closely.

Just to be safe than sorry! :)) It'll be lovely when all your girls group together :))

My boyfriend and I got our first boy Peanut from the P@H adoption centre too. He had a sign saying he couldn't be around other piggies because he was violent. About 7 months after we got him we bought 3 babies from P@H (usually I wouldn't support their business but they had about 20 babies in one of those tiny pens and I was disgusted). Once Peanut saw the new babies he just went mental! He was so excited to see them. It breaks my heart that if someone else with no experience had adopted him he could have spent the rest of his life alone! P@H staff are ridiculous, they have no clue and don't care about the animals they are supposed to look after everyday!

i know what you mean. I'm in the US so we have Pet Smart. i have 3 boys, all of whom came from there (theres another thread i started a while back about not being around rescues) and the poor things were jammed into a freaking fish tank! it makes me sick, and the poor loves now have a huge pen compared to where they were, and now are muuuch happier. they shouldnt be allowed to hire kids who have no idea what they're doing to watch animals who completely depend on them :(
