I went in to the main Chesterfield post office today and after waiting ages my number was called, the lady looked at the name and address of where my parcel was going and started laughing (secret santa gift for the g/p rescue) she asked me who it was for and what was in it so I explained all to her (much to the annoyance of the people waiting ....whoops) and she started crying I looked at her (not really knowing what to say) and she said ''Oh that's just so sad what a sad situation'' so I said ''well yeah it's sad that they're in a rescue but not sad because at least some people care enough about them to have organised such a wonderful cause so people like me can do a little gesture to help'' she wiped her eyes and said that you're all wonderful people who've organised it and who's taken part so a 'BIG WELL DONE' to all involved.
She didn't realise that stuff like this happen so keep up the good work everyone x
I hope you all have a wonderful christmas and I hope all the guinea wiggles have a fab day with their new stuff xxxxxxxxxxx

Awww how sweet was that of her :) I have a lump in my throat just reading about what happened

I am posting mine off the middle of this week just checking out postage costs etc need to wrap the pressies and box them all up tonight or tomorrow hopefully :))

That is lovely.

We posted the second half of ours on Saturday. Hopefully it will all arrive this week.

She was (I'd say) a middle aged lady and I think it just got to her a bit that even small animals go in to rescues.
Most people have laughed at me when I mentioned what I was taking part in (sometimes I found this a little insulting) but I just thought sod it a pet doesn't just mean dog or cat people love all different kinds of animals for different reasons....personally I couldn't cuddle up to a snake or spider the thought of it makes me feel a bit funny and I'm not a cat person either but that's the point, other people are.
Every year I buy extra dog food/treats and put it in the charity animal box in the supermarket, I send 2 operation christmas child boxes through school and I buy an extra present to send to children in care (through a local radio station) and this year I've done the g/p rescue scret santa too.
Whenever I can I'll help out a charity and rope family members in to and over the past few years it's made me realise just how lucky I am.
This year I've heard so many people say how they're struggling financially and it makes me so grateful for what I have..I'm not rich or even well off, I consider myself comfortable, I can afford to feed and clothe my children, feed and house my pets and I've managed to buy everyone of my close family and friends a gift for xmas (with careful planing).
Money isn't everything but it certainly helps and I know if I was ever that desperate my family would be behind me asap and not everyone has that.
So this year I wish everyone a merry christmas and a happy (& prosperous) new year whatever situation you're in.
All the bestxxxx

Aww i bet you didn't expect that reaction! when i took my parcel to the post office the man working there didn't bat an eyelid at the name and address of a guinea pig! :)

Honestly No I didn't, I thought they'd probably laugh like most people did for the thought of me sending a gift to guinea pigs.
I just hope the piggies (and rescue staff) enjoy the prezzies, as I didn't really know what to put in, so I just bought stuff I thought I'd like if I was in their situation.

You're such a sweet person for the above. Thank you and merry Christmas to you and your family - and of course your piggies and pets!

Thanks, I really mean all of the above to everyone.
Hopefully all of the rescues won't be brimming full after xmas with the ''I didn't realise they took that much looking after'' excuses.
