Ive just noticed david has hardly touched any of his veg or dry food today. Ichecked him last night and he was fine so this has happened at some point last night or today :(

Poor little man must of been starving! Ive mushed up some of his food he took 3 tablespoons full, 10ml of water via a syringe and a fair bit of mushed cucumber and spinach! what else can i do. I'd assume id need to keep an eye on his bottom tooth and go the vets for a trim?

I'm going to ring the vets in the morning and see if they are open as normal. doubt it though. I've just been trying and it's engaged. :(

I was planning on doing his second bath with the nyzerol today (all the others have been bathed and checked and are clear) wondering if i should leave him be for now? my poor little man.

1) The harsh bit

Bearing in mind you have 13 years of experience with guinea pigs...and in view of your recent responses to your last thread posted on the Health and Illness Board that I requested be closed.....and the fact that you had decided to leave the forum...I am somewhat gobsmacked at your subsequent posts...

.....hence feel a little bit trepidatious about posting a reply

Nevertheless... (perish the thought I may be "judging you")......you have a piggie "in extremis" and I will post what I can to help your piggie.

2) The constructive bit (I hope)

Syringe feed with Critical care and extra Vit C (no zinc) untll you can get to see a vet. You think he has fungal ...get a skin test done to confirm as it may not be that. Just keep the guts moving until then.

You can chop veggies into thin baton shapes and hand feed. Grass and dandelions works well at this time to encourage veggie eating...but it does seem you are already doing grand with the syringe feeding and what you are using. Well done. Also..it's good he is eating CC(mush) of his own accord.......feed him as much as he will eat at regular intervals (even throughout the night if necessary).

Do NOT bathe atm...it will challenge his immune system especially since he is clearly compromised healthwise. ..IF it is fungal then go for the invermectin/itrafungol or even griseofulvin oral administraton from the vet if prescribed and keep hand feeding........however in view of this sudden turnaround I would "finger in the air" guess there is something going on his mouth.

A bit of history on David would be appreciated as I'm sure I haven;t got the full picture to be able to advise appropriately...is it fungal you suspect he has prior to this new episode and do you think fungal is the cause?

Would also be helpful to know if you think your vets are cavy savvy, wherabouts in Liverpool you are so if necessary we can identify a proper cavy savvy vet foryou.

At the end of the day it is very clear you care a lot for your animals......history is just that...history. I have no axe to grind and think you are acting appropriately in view of this recent (scarey) development with David

As much info as you can please ...(or if you prefer then PM me for my phone number so we can have a chat in private....I promise you i don;t bite...ask other members of the forum!)

One more point....before taking to the vet feed NOTHING but cucumber (without the sKin) for at least an hour beforehand...it clears the mouth to enable the Vet to see the molars properly without the "green gunk"....(tried and tested routine with my own vets)

His top teeth will grow back quite quickly - cut veg up into strips to help him grab it

Ooo-er i dont know what to suggest, ummm the only thing i can think of is driving to the vets? Could you mush his pellets up for him?
Sorry I'm not much help. Hope hes okay xxxxx
