I shouldn't have looked...

I've now seen a 5 month old ginger aby boar on gumtree free to a good home because the owners can't look after him anymore due to work commitments...

Now I'm thinking he is so adorable and would make a gorgeous boyfriend for my two girls but that would mean getting him neutered and a much bigger cage...

At what age can you have piggies neutered from?

I hate looking at website like gumtree and preloved it breaks my heart to see so many animals needing a home :(

You can get male guinea pigs neutered from 6 months old :)

uh oh... now I really want him because he's almost ready to go in with my girls

How old are your girls? Not all older sows will necessarily accept a boar.

I would strongly recommend to have him neutered by Simon Maddock in Northampton - they are the best guinea pig vets in the region with lots of experience. http://www.catandrabbit.co.uk/contact_us.htm

The neutering age depends on condition, weight and age. A boar usually has a pre-op check to make sure that he is healthy and well enough to make it safely through the op.

Thank you so much for that info wiebke its certainly food for thought especially as Bea is over 2 years old. I don't think OH will consider getting another piggy at the moment but if he doesn't then I will email the owner and suggest local rescues that might be able to help. Better for the piggy to be well cared for while waiting on a home

I had a guinea pig named Millie, that was 4 and a half, and she absoultly loved it when i got a boar, but maybes thats because she was by her self for 11 days, but she wanted a friend and they got on really well together, and she was licking his ear. I think you should Get him, he will bring more love to your heart, and even if he didn't get on you could make a seperate bit for him where he has his own little den. x

Hope this helps! x
