Oh Phoebe!

You know that feeling that something isn’t quite right?
Phoebe is eating normally, pooping and weeing normally, bouncing around happily but...
She seemed to be scratching and her fur a little thinner on one side - no signs of anything I could see.
So off we went to the vet just in case I wasn’t being paranoid.

Ah! said vet - I can feel an ovary.
Blood test showed slightly high blood sugar too

So now I wait for her to consult another vet and then we decide what is needed.
I am so glad that I took Phoebe to see Kiri rather than wait & see
 
Oh no poor Phoebe! She's quite a young piggy too isn't she? I do hope its nothing serious, well done for getting her straight to the vets. Sending healing vibes and wheeks and Piggle sends extra piggy kisses because she was at the vet today too having her mucky grease gland inspected. Piggle says Phoebe should get a hay cookie and some spinach leaves like she did for being a good girl x

All the best! Whatever it turns out to be, you have caught it very early.

Well done in getting Pheobe seen straight away. You know when something is wrong with your piggies.

Thanks for the link @Wiebke - it saved me trawling through the forum for it.
Fortunately it looks as if the diet is already ideal except for cutting down on lettuce and switching to green pepper.
The high sugar veggies are already a rare treat and they’re on grain free pellets anyway.
Vet wasn’t sure if the high blood sugar was linked to the ovarian issue in which case it should settle when we deal with that.
Monday will bring clarity
 
Weighed Phoebe today and she’s lost about 40g over the past 2 weeks so nothing to get seriously worried about.
However I did decide that a small syringe feed wouldn’t go amiss.

Well, Phoebe was having none of it!

Eventually I admitted defeat and decided instead to add some oats to the food bowls.
Also a ramekin dish of critical care food was placed by Phoebe’s favourite snuggle pouch.
Yummy said Jemimah diving into the ramekin dish.
Yummy, oats said Priscilla working her way through as many as possible.

Phoebe decided to tuck into the veggies and the hay so she is eating ok.
Her poops are fine - she showed me while sitting on my lap resisting the syringe.

Feeling slightly on edge waiting for the vet’s call tomorrow.
 
Hope the prognosis is good for Phoebe! All my piggies send healing wheeks and Theo would like to send her a cheeky kiss and some porridge oats :) x

She’s about 18 months old and generally fit and healthy so unless there’s something nasty lurking she should be fine.
She appreciates Theo’s virtual kiss and sends one crack. She is looking forward to meeting him and all your piggies next month
 
Vet phoned so....
Probably not diabetes but slightly elevated sugar due to discomfort or pain.
She’s going to the hospital next week to see the exotic specialist for a thorough check of her teeth, just in case it’s a dental issue , and a scan of her kidneys and bladder.
It may be cystitis or a bladder infection so they will do the scans and tests.
She’s going to get 0.15ml of Loxicom a day to help with any discomfort.
Husband is going to jump for joy when I tell him as I have to go to Yorkshire for a couple of days!

She’s booked in for Thursday next week unless she shows signs of going downhill in which case she’ll be seen as an emergency.
More waiting.

I really appreciate the support of the forum at an anxious time

Sounds very thorough, and expensive. Sending you and the lovely Phoebe healing thoughts and wishes.

Must be awful waiting but it sounds like the vet is being very thorough and investigating all options! Theo sends extra healing piggy kisses and a cheeky rumblestrut for Phoebe. Hopefully its something easily treated but if she is still on any medication when the big house move happens, rest assured that we are fine with administering piggy medicine (and treats afterwards!) and doing daily weight checks and we have a great vet just round the corner!
 
Phoebe seemed much happier today - she was running around more than yesterday.
She's had her first dose of Loxicom so hopefully will feel more comfortable soon.
Her weight is stable which is good and she's eating well
My vet fund has only just recovered from last year - I'm trying not to think about how much it's going to cost me.
Vet didn't even ask if I was happy about all this expenditure - she knows the answer is always going to be whatever it takes for my piggies.
