I know there are threads up about petshops at the moment, but have just come back from Lakeside, didn't know that there was a petshop there - rabbits and guineas, in a tiny tank. I asked the girl if she knew the RSPCA's recommendation that they shouldn't be housed together, she started to talk over me saying the RSPCA are fine with it, they are only babies, it's all good, and I was trying to point out the damage they can do even in play, and she just wasn't interested :-\ I had this conversation with a Cornish petshop recently, and they just don't care. In fact she proudly showed me her breeding stock :-\ At first I was seething, but now I think what's the point? Is there any point in saying anything? This girl talked over me with the same arguments she obviously has had to express before and just wasn't listening.

Sorry to whinge, but it's just like banging your head against a brick wall :-\

Wasn't the Cornish pet shop in Wadebridge was it, that why i brought my Rusty two rabbits and four guineas in one hutch, and when i got home little Rustie was pregnant >:(

It IS so frustrating isn't it?! ::)
All I would say is that its worth ploughing on and trying to educate people as there will sometimes be someone that is actually ignorant rather than just uncaring and then you can make a difference :)

No them, it was in Bude, up the coast from Wadebridge.

LoopyLou, when they start being a little verbally aggressive (I don't mean swearing or anything) I just find my arguments dying in my throat, it's almost intimidating, which is probably intentional on their behalf. I think I'm just not pushy enough. It takes me ages to pluck up the courage to say something and to just get glossed over...well, I come out wishing I could be more assertive and literally shaking with nerves and anger. But they clearly know the situation as she had all the arguments ready to throw back at me, so they must know it's not ideal.

At least my work colleague listened - she was going to buy a piggie for her niece to go with her rabbit, I gently asked if she would reconsider, and she looked shocked when I explained why. Needless to say she didn't get the piggie, and actually thanked me :) so there are SOME caring people!

:-X Maybe we should carry information leafets from the RSPCA! do they have any/yet? :police:

This is my reason for not shopping in pet stores anymore that sell animals. If we all make a stand and educate people we know then surely it has to have some kind of impact?

I don't like confronting people even if I am a Scouser <gg> So I prefer to put my money where my mouth with and shop for products online and in Wilko's for quick things I need like hay etc.

You can't win with people like this, they know it all apparantly.

Louise
