I am seriously thinking of creating a facebook page for the Tribe with a daily "picture fix"... I have so many! :))

Ffowlyn is a real cutie, but they all are, each in their own way.
 
Ooh, I want to join the club! Especially if you have lots of pigtures of Caron! :) Isn't it funny how we all love the tribe but have our own special piggie within it!

I don't mean to make you all jealous (apart from JoBo) but I have been lucky enough to have met the Tribe apart from newbies Tegyd and Terfel xx>>>

They are just adorable and even cuter in real life.

Wiebke has gone out of her way to provide a very happy home for all of her piggies and they are very lucky indeed :)

I definitely vote for a Tribe (and Trio) fan club x)

I love everyone's piggies! I've been nosying through all the pics and they are all adorably gorgeous! I would love a tribe like that:)

The Tribe is a dream (and then some) come true for me. I had to wait for years until I could realise it! But the time was not lost, as I have gained in experience in the meantime to the benefit of the Tribe!

I too have been privileged to meet Wiebke's piggies, with the exception of the newbies. As I don't have my own guinea pigs, Wiebke has generously allowed me to be their GodPigMother (or is that PigGodMother?).

Instead of the 'open garden' schemes can we have an open cage scheme where we can visit piggies in different areas?! drooldrool (must find a huuuge pignapping jacket!)

Just out of interest, as someone who only has boars but hopes to one day have a tribe similar to Wiebke, if there was no king of the tribe, would the dynamics be totally different?

The girls have their own hierarchy, independently of whether there is a boar or not. A boar fits in as high or low as he can get away with. You do not necessarily need a dominant boar to live with a bigger group of girls, but one who is not afraid to break up squabbles and leads from the front is a boon if you want to create a proper mob - they would be the kind of boar that would make it in the wild.

Since Llewelyn had been a true patriarch, I wanted another dominant boar with leader portential. None of my sows is overly dominant, so there was a noticeable vacuum during the time Llewelyn was severely ill and Hywel still recovering from his op. My hormonal girl Ffowlyn was rumbling, mounting and behaving like a boar throughout the whole time! mallethead

When planning to build up a group, it is advisable to introduce a neutered boar early on, so you can build up a group around him. A very dominant sow may not accept a rival for her iron fist later on. I have also been very careful in only rehoming sows that were either used to living in groups or that had been the underpiggy of a pair (in that case, age is not a concern).

The only notable exception was Tegyd; but she had been living with a submissive boar (called Black Jack) before, so it was not a complete gamble! But hence Terfel... black face...tick! submissive... tick! Result: Instant hit! :))
