Hey all,
Well..Apatche's oil gland(where it looks like they should have a tail?)I keep them cleaned out.Well tonite I looked and was gonna clean them out well it is red around it and his fur around it is matted. He also squeaked a little. He is fine eating drinking playing and all.He is hisself. But when I clean them it ain't usallly red and matted back there. Please let me know what yall think i cleaned him up some.

One drop of washing up liquid massaged into the hair around the grease gland, then rinsed off with plain water should solve the problem.

How often do you clean the grease gland at the moment? AP has suggested the best method to deal with a build up of grease, which would leave the area matted. Not sure on the redness, it may clear up once you've given the gland a good clean.

I have had them a little over a year and have only cleaned them mabe 4 times.I have read up on it and i am going to try some baby oil and then gently clean it.I will let yall know how it goes.

Do let us know how the baby oil goes, though I do suspect it will be a nightmare to wash off! Better to use a small drop of washing up liquid, as this is designed to combat grease, and just rinse.

I got it all off and it does look better now.I know it sounds stupid but does anyone have a pic of a normal gland. So i will know if his is ok because i can't get a picture.

I've just had a similar problem with Herbert and found this very helpful:
