so ive read gerty is bad and contains colourings so i went to buy some burgess and happened to read the ingredients and read it also has colourings, now I'm confused ?
at the moment i feed a mix of p@h nuggets and gerty mix plus excel hay and carrot, curly kale and parsley. they seem to be fine with it.

is gerty really that bad ?

ok cool.ill try switching to that..nice pic by the way !! is that a skateboard !

cavy cuisine

Hi,apparantly the best food to give is cavy cuisine .they also do a seperate version for pigs up to 6 months called cavy performance.it is expensive thats the only drawback.I'm in the process of switching my girls to it as they are just not eating their wagg food .it is supposed to be the most pallatable food for piggies,:) am wasting so much wag at moment that figured if they eat the cavy cuisine then dont mind spending that bit extra .the hay experts are selling a 4.5 kg bag for £15.00 which is good as a 2.25 kg bag costs £11.00.Their hay is also really nice.

Do you fed kale and parsley everyday? Both are high in calcium and should be restricted to say once or twice a week

I feed spillers guinea pig food large 15kg bag last well.. Have previously fed gerty guinea and my last guinea pigs lived untill 8 so it did`nt do them anyharm..

thanks all..and yes i have been feeding kale every day as i was told it was good for young pigs,,and parsley once a day.
I'm going to try celery, runner beans, brocolli, corn on the cob or baby corn ?

hello, i feed mine wagg optimum and they love it.

celery is good make sure to cut it though. mine go mad for green beans, both types of corn work, cucumber is a good one if they dont drink a lot, lettuce (not iceberg) and bell peppers are all hits to.

thanks, got some baby sweetcorn, celery and sliced runner beans,is sliced ok or should i give them whole ?

and am i right in believing that a cup of veg per pig per day is standard ?

sliced is fine :) about that is right i think its about 50g veg per piggy. feeding a bit more doesnt matter though.

thanks..............this is a great forum.x

sorry only me again ! is that 50 g of veg plus dry food ie nuggets and vit c mix ?

hi

unlimited hay, unlimited nuggets until about 9 months old and then a cup of veg per piggy every day.

hope that makes sense :)

i feed my boys woodland range from pets at home its nuggets and hay mixed and they have a bowl of mix veg in morming when i get up then every time the fridge opens you can hear them wheeking but i only give them bits and bobs though day like half a tomato each (but watch for sores to much can cause them ) or spinich

hi again,,sorry to sound dumb but i dont understand ?

lol :) piggies under 9 months old need unlimited nuggets/museli mix (not sure which you feed)

all piggies need unlimited hay.

and then they also need veggies everyday. i feed mine something in the morning, the main bits at dinnner time and then a little something else before bed so they get there veg over the course of the day, you can feed it all in one sitting. they should be fed 5 different veggies a day.

hope that helps :)

thank you so much.
ill tell you what i feed them and you can tell me if I'm doing the right thing for my pigs !
every day i top up the bowl to the brim with a mixture of p@h nuggets and gertys vit c mix(which i may change due to bad things being said about gertys)
in the morning i give them carrot, lettuce baby toms and broccoli, was giving kale and parley but have now read only twice a week as it has high calcium.i just tried runner beans, celery and baby sweetcorn but my pigs didnt really touch it. fresh water and unlimited excel hay every day. plenty of room to run around also.
am i good to go ?

ok all sunds good cut the carrots down to only feeding half the week. tomoatos are ok but be careful of sores as they are quite acidic. you could try cabbage, peppers, green beans and cucumber. they can have fruit once a week to.

i feed a handful of spinach in the morning, celery, peppers, beans for dinner and then either parsley, baby corn, lettuce, cabbage, carrot at night, they get one or 2 of these depending on what i have in. and cucuinber during the day if i'm at home, dill, basil and corinader are also hits in my house. hope that helps :)

to be honest they dont really touch the baby toms so I'm stopping that, it will be lettuce, broccoli, carrot, with treats of kale and parsley a few times a week. thanks again your a great help.

thats ok its all pretty much hit and miss with them. you know what you want to feed them but they dont always agree. i have 2 fussy piggies so i feed them what they will eat.
