Ok the weather although windy is warmer and so the piggies can return for the whole year to the shed BUT!

If Zub smells the ladies he goes LOOPY and poor eddie is man handled! but i have only one shed and the hutches are double decker so i cant seperate them but i am NOT allowed them to stay in the house! They have become the main point of some rows with my dad alot of rows he wants them out but he wont have it that A, i thought its to cold and B, that they will probably fight! i will put the girls in the lower hutch so that no girlie woodshavings fall into their cage to aggrovate the situation, but i need any tips on how i either disguse Tia and Marias scent or stop Zubin hurting Edwin? i thought i could make a house big enough for ed but not zub as a save haven but he is growin by the day!

any ideas would be useful! x

I don't know what to suggest, I ended up seperating two of my boys in the summer because of the girls and they were the other side of the garden.

I don't think you will be able to hide the girls scent

could you get another cage from somewhere and seperate the boys if they start fighting or get the boys neutered and then let them have a girl each?

good luck

karen

Cant seperate they take too much comfort in each other, and harry is living with both females so i would end up with a boar alone, I'm so stuck on ideas but I'm also stuck cos i dont have a choice they must go back out! :(

Try a smelly candle in there - not lit - but something to try and disguise their scent. A smoothering of vick perhaps on the top of the lower cage/hutch?

lol okies ill try vick and my mum said that maybe if i kept them busy with veg filled toys they'll be distracted by them maybe those cones 4 dogs with pureed fruit! cos zubin would choose apple most days! ill try anything!

As the temp is about to drop this is a very bad time to do this. -5 predicted for tomorrow.

I would think about getting them neutered. None of my pairs of boars survived being in the shed with the girls.

I wont neuter them the stress would probably finish them off. and i heard that so might wait till feb? i gotta figure something out its like theres not much i can do but i have to do something ! >:(

What makes you think that Verity?

As long as they are in good health and not too old, there is every chance that they will be fine. I, like many if not most guinea rescues have had lot's of boars castrated without problems :)
It sounds like the ideal option in this situation. While it would have no effect on the squabbling if kept together, it would mean that they could each have a girl to live with. Most....in my experience... neutered boars and sows do get on well...but it has to be said there are no guarantees ::)

Do keep an eye on the situation as it stands as it sounds as though Edwin may be getting a lot of hassle from Zubin?

To be honest, I'm really surprised when I read that people cannot keep boars together if there are sows in the vacinity :-\. My pigs are no different to any other pigs and all my boars are entire and paired up even tho there are sows in the shed as well. I can pair a boar and sow and even with all the racket they make it has no effect on my boar pairs. The only thing I have to make sure of is that the boars are cleaned out before the sows so that the travel box doesn't smell of sows and set the boars off.

I agree with Kat I have seperate sheds but in the girls sheds have a seperate run with floo and artie in it and apart from watching the girls they get along perfectly, I also use to have one hugh shed with both in and had no problems boys in one side of shed girls in the other with no worrys , and if I am REALLY honest I would never ever neuter any of my boys, just my preference, I would always find a way round things , in all the time of having pigs I have never done it and doubt ever will, I know a few of you are very for this but this is just my personal preference,

Zubin gets stressed so easily and hes not got a female to be with so i dont see the point, i wouldnt like have a hysterectomy for no reason so why should they go through all that, and its expensive harrys was around 50 and for two its going to be 100 and I'm not in a position to do that on a whim, they would have to stay in there pair and as it doesnt alter their behaviour there really isnt any point! there is a really bad cold wind at the mo so I'm going to have to wait although id like my room back! lol they miss there run as well I'm sure they do as they can get out in this weather and I'm not to let them run in the rooms as there is mice poision and traps round.
