Here are my first two pet shop bought G.Pigs: Scruffy, a chocolate Abyssinian (and a right little character, who terrorised the cat) and Barney, chocolate and gold smooth (a real handsome gentleman).

Unfortunately Scruffy beat Barney up so they were neutered and paired up with more pets shop pigs Daisy and Rosie - sorry no pics :( But Daisy (tri coloured smooth) was a true lady and Rosie (tri Abby) could shout louder than any piggy I have ever had. All but Scruffy went over the bridge so I contacted the rescue for a partner for Scruffy and ended up with 3 girlies - Rusty (Agouti rex), Josie (Black & White Abby) and Buttons (Black satin self). All very pretty ladies and very close.

This story is firstly about Rusty who passed a bladder stone. I took her to a large local vets - there was a bit of blood but she was otherwise ok. The vet felt a fatty lump on her side and told me she had a tumour and needed an immediate operation. I doubted this so took her to see a Rodentologist linked to the Cambridge Cavy Trust. The top vet threatened me and said if I took her away from his surgery then she would die. The Rodentologist was some 2.5hrs away but I went after work. She confirmed that it was just a fatty lump and that Rusty had passed a stone and needed antibiotics and pain relief; which she could get hold of so I left Rusty with her for 3 days. The vet rang a week or two later to see how Rusty was and I said she was fine. I think I could have knocked him over with a feather! We had a discussion about the Cambridge Cavy Trust and Rodentologists and I am very pleased to say that the practice then began to liaise with CCT. Unfortunately the vet who was liaising with the CCT then moved to Newzealand and took her knowledge with her :( But Rusty's case is why I have no faith in normal vets.
Little Josie had no problems and died of old age. Buttons managed to get no less than 5 abscesses under her chin at the same time. The vet (a different vet/different practice) advised I have her euthanized as 5 abscesses was too much to deal with; but I had them lanced and flushed. I then flushed them every morning and evening (and put medicated gel in them) for a while (sorry can't remember how long) until they had all healed. AND Buttons still liked me after all that! Bless her the little sweetie. RIP Scruffy, Barney, Daisy, Rosie and rescue piggies Rusty, Josie and Buttons. Love to you all.
