I have a 6 year old guinea pig. He's a sterilised male. He eats a lot, and often. He's not putting on weight, and feels a bit skeletal. He drinks far more than ever before. Doesn't race around as he used to. Can anybody advise? Many thanks
Please have him checked by a vet. Piggies do lose condition as they get older. Lack of movement can be from pain of arthritis. Weight loss and drinking more could be old age, kidney problems or dental issues. All these things are treatable (not curable) but only a vet will be able to advise how best to give your piggy the best quality of life.
Also bere in mind that the older an animal or human gets the more worn out
It's organs get and there system may not metabolise as well as when he was younger! Though on saying that , as VickiA said ! A visit to the vet would be the
Safest course of action, as there could be causes that can be treated!
It would be a helpful to your vet if you took a poo sample , and a wee sample if you can get one
