Hi,
I've heard that some people have given there piggies 1ml of olive oil to help with bloat. Does this actually work?
Thankyou x

It all depends on what type of bloat a pig has, where it is located in their body and how the pig is acting.

I have heard of good experiences with it but I personally have had a bad experience with it and so would never recommend to try it without vet authorisation first.

I think I may have commented on one of your topics about bloat recently. If it is the same pig I would really recommend a vet visit.

Very mild gas can right itself within a few days but if it's lingering then you may need gut motility drugs.

Have you tried additional exercise? Taking her out in the car for a ride? Sometimes the jingling around loosens the gas.

Hi,
I don't have a car at the moment as my parents are away but I have been making her move/run around. She also had a massage pad which seemed to help a bit. Her poos are quite soft aswell, is this something to do with gas bloat?
Thanks

It sounds like it. You will need to stop feeding any fresh veg until her poops are firmed up again.

Hi,
My parents get back tomorrow so I can get her to the vet then. She seems ok actually, she's popcorning and eating lots of hay but I'm still gonna take her to the vet asap

Glad you're pig seems to be inproving! and you are very wise to take her to a vet ! :tu: as already said keep her away from all green veg and all fruit untill she has been back to normal for a couple of weeks ! bloat you can never be to carfully,
Personaly I would not consider giving olive oil, or any other off the counter meds , as you could make a bad situation a lot worse,
Over the years Bloat has earned the reputation of being the mother of all emergencies, and rightly so!
