Oliver has a runny eye he has had it for a few days.No puss or discharge at present and does not look particularly red...he has red eyes anyway..lol.Brolene has been mentioned as a possible treatment.
Advice on this and dosage please.I will take him the vets if no better.
He did have a fall about 6 - 7 weeks ago as i discussed on the forum at that time.He banged his nose and chipped tooth. He is eating fine.Could this be delayed conjestion ? I have checked him for a foreign body and no different products have been used on him.

any other probs such as sneezing etc?
could be related to his fall, as a vet nurse I'm obviously gonna say get him checked, but you kno him better than anyone so keep an eye (no pun intended lol) watch to make sure eating/drinking/eliminations are all normal etc.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say I'm not inclined to think that it's related to his fall, as that was quite a while ago. I'm not saying it's not possible, just that it's not something I would link to a fall that occurred 40+ days ago if the symptom has not appeared before now.

Does the eye just seem more watery than normal, or is it actually running a little down his face? It could be as simple as dust or hay irritating the eyes. One of my pigs, Frankie, always has small 'crusties' around the eye and slightly watery eyes due to an 'allergy' (senstivity).

Brolene can be used, not something I've used on my pigs myself as I stick with the Optrex Infected Eyes for most eye problems. As far as I know the dose is simply a drop in each eye once or twice a day.

The Optrex Infected Eyes contains chloramphenicol, which is the antibiotic contained in the usual eye ointment that most vets would give for eye infections.

I believe Optrex Eye Wash can also be used to rinse the eye.

You can also use sterile saline solution, available from the local chemist or optician.

Hi Helen

I have just joined the forum and was reading your post. I just wondered if Oliver's eye was any better.

My wee Jules had a watery eye for a wee while and I know they get gunky stuff in their eyes when cleaning but this didn't go away so we took him to the vet and they found he had a wee flap on the inside of his eyelid which they thought was the cause of the irritation. They gave us Fucithalmic drops to use but it didn't get any better so they booked him in to remove this though they said they couldn't guarantee this wouldn't regrow but so far his eye is fine and that was May he ahd the op so fingers crossed though I do keep an eye on both my piggies now for anything thats different with them

Hope Oliver is better

Oliver is ok

Oliver seems fine now.We wondered if his latest ivermectin drop application had found its way from back of ear to eye during grooming ? rolleyes
His eye settled after a couple of days and we just keep a regular check on him now.I have added brolene, chloramphenicol and sterile saline to my guinea first aid box. Hope your cavie is well.
