OMG - Has anyone heard of LCMV?

Thanks for everone's advice, I feel a lot less stressed about it now...... Also just found out my sisters mate who just had a healthy baby has had guinea pigs for years! don't think she took any extra care.
I am working on the assumption that I probably have had this thing years ago as I used to have about 20 guineas and we had a mice infestation at one time. Also, as I have had them a couple of months I surely would have got/had it by now? I am taking lots of extra precautions now anyway, like wearing rubber gloves and washing my hands twice as much even though I was washing them in antibacterial soap anyway (they are practically red raw from washing as I am a bit ocd about cleanliness anyway)
I will mention it to my GP next week, but I feel a bit releaved in the hope that I can hang onto them. I felt so great about taking them on knowing what a rough time they'd had, and was gutted at the thought of giving them back! So hopefully that needn't happen....
:)

Well I was very naughty and cleaned mine without gloves several times before I had my daughter. In all fairness I didn't know I was pregnant for quite a few weeks and when I did I simply wore gloves. It's common sense. In fact I was cleaning out my guinea pigs when my waters had broken and I was in early labour because I knew my other half wouldn't do it when I was in hospital. :))

The bottom line is with anything pregnancy or child related, don't google. You end up with the disaster scenario. Millions more people own cats and dogs than guinea pig and there is a much greater risk from them with the likes of toxoplasmosis.

The chances of your guinea pigs having LCMV are slim. So your chances of catching it are slimmer. Then the chances of your baby being harmed by it are miniscule.
