Hey all,

I am upset as last night we let Herbie out for an hours run at about 9pm, well at 10pm I feel asleep forgetting to tell the OH to put Herbie back.

Well I get up to go to the loo at 4 this morning and see that the living room door was closed, well we only ever close it when Herbie is out and I suddenly worried.

I went in to find the phone unplugged (something we do as Herbie eats the phone line) and him not in his hutch.

We had forgotten to put him away, I found him asleep behind the sofa but I feel so guilty and I was wondering if this makes me a bad guinea pig owner as I was in tears last night over it.

Herbie is none the worse for his little over night sleep out of the hutch he is eating fine and seems fine, but I was wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else before.

I really hope no one is angry with me as it was an honest mistake and Herbie did not come to any harm (my carpets probably have done as he probably wee'd everywhere lol.

A very upset Sarah :'( :'( :'( :'( :embarassed: :( :( :( :(

Aww everyone makes mistakes - I'm sure no one will be angry at you just make sure it doesn't happen again :)

The main thing is that the piggy is okay, he probably enjoyed it ;D :smitten:

aww don't worry love, as Jane said everyone makes mistakes. :) It's good that you were trying to give him some floor time. :)
Next time, if you are tired just don't get him out for once, i think it's probably better than being out for that long.
You are definitely not a bad mummy and he probably enjoyed it! :) :D

Nooo don't worry why should we be angry with you, we all make mistakes don't worry Herbie probably had the time of his life! And yes your carpets probably did suffer, did you have little piles of poops everywhere?!

I came home on Boxing day a couple of years ago at about 9.30pm after spending the day at my mum's and as I walked into the living room my Snowy (RIP) was standing looking at me as surpirsed as I was! I had forgotten to shut their cage door when they went home after their morning run and they'd had the time of their lives - and a very happy christmas - there was poops all over the place!

Dont worry - it sounds as if he wasnt in any danger and it was at least a place familiar to him so he wont have been scared

I can imagine what a fright you got when you realised what had happened - I'd have reacted the same!

As the others have said, Herbie came to no harm, you were careful about cables and he probably had a great time. You obviously love Herbie to bits and want to do the very best by him, that makes you the very best kind of owner. Don't worry! x

Aw! :) He probably enjoyed himself no end! ;D ;D And will probably sleep alot now! ;D He's ok, no harm done... so no need to worry! ;)

A similar thing happened with Lennie the other night. He was out in the lounge and I asked my son (who is 18) to put him back in his c + c before he went to bed. I wouldnt have minded if he had forgotton to do that and left the cage open as I sometimes do, but he closed the cage while Lennie was out! I was cross because he didnt have access to his food/hay/water all night, but he came to no harm..phew!

Don't worry Sarah, I have almost done the same thing and left the piggies in the conservatory!
I feel sorry for you now, you'll have to go on a puddle-finding expedition!

Don't worry Sarah! I did the same thing to my dog and felt horrible, but I gave her some treats and some of my dinner and she quickly forgave me ;D It happens to the best of us piggy owners ;)

You're worrying too much! I bet he had a great time - it's not like he was in a strange environment. Your carpet may be a bit pungent after a few days though!

well Herbie was a bit disgusted with me this morning he chattered his teeth at me so he told me to bog off basically lol.

But yes thank you all he is fine and has come to no harm at all and is stll giving me lots of piggy kisses after i bribed him with lots of his fave veggies.

Thank you all for not been angry at me

Sarah

P.s. Yes poos were lots and so were wees i think he was getting his own back lol

As long as he access to some drinking water and a bit of hay, I bet he thought all his birthdays come at once, I wouldn't feel guilty if I were you ;D

You cant help falling asleep.I wouldnt feel upset. He probably had lots of fun exploring round the living room.Or where ever you put him.

I bet he had a whale of a time and finally fell asleep after he had exhausted himself!

Don't beat yourself up, we all make mistakes :) You must have been exhausted yourself
