Okay, so this is the only place that will understand how happy I am!

I want to burst in happiness which feels so odd as I have not felt happiness in years... (depression and the whole lot lol)

So heres the reason...

Last year I decided I want piggies and then by November-ish I was sure that I wanted them. I am graduate still living with my parents, so things are still pretty much up to them. (Even though I pay for everything, as mother is a full time carer for dad who is mentally ill so they cannot work)

Anyways, I asked my mum so many times, can I please have guinea pigs, I actually called them hamsters as the word 'pig' does not fit well for a muslim very very cultural woman lol So hamsters was the closest I could think of.
She said they stink, they will take up space and I will be ill from them. I argued and argued making very strong answers and I won yesterday :<>

Now I am all getting ready to get them... she said say a small cage BUT:red I want a 140cm x 70cm for 2 guinea pigs. They should have plenty of popcorning space!

I have made my shopping list which boyfriend is kindly going to help me to buy, my sweet brother is going to give me £100 for some things too. Now that I have two part-time jobs, I am in more of a position to save up for vet-money.

I just feel so happy about it and I know most people I know will not understand it, but I know you guys will. I feel so weird but a good weird!

Congratulations ! they will bring you much happiness - where will you be getting them from ? - rescue "hamsters" are a good way to go - they will have been properly sexed and free from ill health - we have had people on here who have had with problems and some big vet bills when they have come from a pet shop or someone like pets at home - rescues also give you lots more help and advice -

Very happy for you and I am sure you and your new "hamsters" will be very happy together.

How exciting I look forward to seeing pigtures soon. xx

I have been to my local rescue which is Bobtails Rescue and I usually go there to get a 'fix' as the owner Jim says :red It's the only way that I can keep the patience in me and get to hold guinea pigs before I get mine!

I am soooooo happy for you. I never won the arguement when I lived at home, had to wait :(

I begged and I didn't want to speak to my mother :)) I am a young woman but I still act like a child! Besides, I have always done what she asks of me and this is the only time I have really ever had to argue with her!

She thinks hamsters, guinea pigs etc are rats and smelly and carry diseases. How misinformed she is :(

Thank you all! I knew you guys would understand! I am over the moon and I literally can't sleep. All I need to do is save some more money, get the cage, everything set up for a home check... then wait for the right piggies to come. I want to make sure that I fall in love with the piggie and vice versa. To me the first contact is important... I don't even know what kind of guinea pig I want more but I so so so LOVE Sir Finley pig... I want one just like him. Obviously we can't be picky in rescues so I shall have to wait and see.

My future lovelynesses are awaiting my cuddles and kisses x)

Aw congratulations! Call them by their proper name "Cavies" that will hopefully solve your problem especially if she wonders why they are such large hamsters! Lol! I've no idea why they get called Guinea Pigs, they aren't pigs & they don't come from Guinea anyway rolleyes

How exciting! And fabulous that you're having rescue piggles! Can't wait to see who you bring home! x

Of course we all understand your excitement!
That's great news and I'd be bursting to tell the world too.
I'm sure the perfect special "hamsters" are in rescue just waiting for you to come along. :(|)

Wonderful news for you! It would be great if you considered rehoming from a reputable rescue; perhaps better a couple of sows than boars if smells are such a big issue. That way, you can be completely sure that they aren't pregnant and are healthy.

Oh Nina this is wonderful news! I know how badly you want guinea pigs and you will make a wonderful guinea pig mum.

I am so happy to be on this forum as if I had never come on here, I wouldn't be getting my guinea pigs from a rescue.

I know that budgie breeding isn't like guinea pig breeding, as in I have different opinions for both, budgies for me personally are not a problem but guinea pig breeding just seems over the top. Especially some stories that I have heard.

I remember I said I wanted to go to a breeder and then someone on here said what about all those that need homes. I never considered it, also, I wanted young guinea pigs and thought rescues would just have older piggies.

So thank you all for your information on caring, loving and your photos and the stories. Everything has helped me so much!

I want to love my piggies as much as I love my budgies, I know my budgies are well looked after (and no they aren't locked in the cage lol they have free time or 12 hours until bedtime). My guinea pigs have to be the happiest ones!

I was going to use the word 'cavy' but mum would just say, what are they? etc and it would just be more puzzling! I know guinea pigs have nothing to do with pigs but my mum did not go to school, she did not learn certain things (many reasons, war in her country etc)

My dad would understand as he studied here but he's mentally ill, otherwise he would defo support me.

Smell-wise is going to be battled first, she thinks my budgies smell.. they DO NOT.. at all! Their urine/urate is solid and so is their poo... they pee and poo all in one lol
My brother has kindly just ordered me an air purifier, I thought it would be helpful all round, for budgies and piggies and me ofcourse :))

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK x)x)x)

:laluot_24::laluot_24::laluot_24:

what fantabulous news for you sweetie XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Thank you! I am still jumping inside! Soon I will have little wheekers at home :(|) I love the sounds they make, makes me laugh!

You know it doesn't matter how bad a day i have....... if i get wheeeeks when i get home i always smile :)

I can't wait to see pigtures droolx)

aww it's lovely that a new cavy mum is joining the world :) enjoy them x

Good luck in your new endeavour, you sound like a lovely person.
Some piggies are about to embark on a new life with a very caring mum.:(|)

How AWESOME! It took me awhile to convince my OH to get some piggies but he finally gave in. Unfortunately our local SPCA RARELY gets pigs in and they are snapped up quickly here, so I went to a pet store. (I know, and I am sorry but I HAD to have them and the piggy waiting list at the SPCA was over a year) My 4 girls are the light of my life, even though we lost Skittles almost a week ago to a nasty URI.

Since having my piggies I am a MUCH happier person. I live and breathe them! Its been the best 2 1/2 weeks of my entire life. Good luck and good pig hunting!

I don't understand why I never considered them before!

Thank you guys and gals for your lovely comments.

I have these weird butterfly feelings lol Like I am quite scared and unsure but happy.

I have nothing ready just yet... no cage or anything so that needs to get sorted soon. I am thinking another month or so until I am absolutely ready. Plus I need a home check by the rescue... hopefully I will pass. They want everything to be set up, even the food etc

She thinks hamsters, guinea pigs etc are rats and smelly and carry diseases. How misinformed she is :(

Sounds like OH's mother... that was until I gave her the 1st annual pigture calendar I made (2011, I think...). Her comment was "awww aren't they cuuute..." and then when we found out Caramel was expecting last year, she wanted the babies, which she did not get as OH and I kept them :o surprising what a few pics of pretty pigs can do!

Anyway, I just wanted to say:

CONGRAT*LATIONS!!! *sorry about the spelling, forum puts a * there no matter what I try :red*

and a big welcome to the world of being a piggy-mum from me, OH and our 14 little squeakers!

AWWWW That's so lovely! Thank you!

LOL I hope my mother can change her mind... I have a feeling when she sees how cute they are, she will love them. My friend bought her hamsters to my house when I was like 10 (real hamsters, chinese dwarf ones) and my mum was all holding them and playing with them just like a kid :)) Even though before she said she depises them and says they smell etc

My guinea pigs won't smell hopefully, I will be changing them everyday. I have decided to keep newspaper and hay. Is that ok?
Fleece I have heard gets smelly quickly.
