Omg Joel Can Escape From His C&c

We heard a bit of racket this evening from upstairs. I thought nothing of it until it happened for the third time. It sounded like a guinea pig qas running around the room loose. I went up and checked what is going on and everyone was where they were supposed to be to stood quietly trying to see if someone was falling out or what was going on. I turned around and saw joel jump out of the c and c onto the box of nuggets next to his cage :mal:

he is a very long pig and did escape once begore by chewing through a plastic grid but i never thought hed be able to climb The mesh ones!

He is intact so i am going to have to see what i can do to keep him in. Any ideas much appreciated he is currently on my knee as i darent put him back incase he jumps into girlies cage
 
Oh wow! Sounds like a devious, fun time piggie.

My two boars once broke out of my C&C too. They somehow unlatched it from the holders and pushed it open like a door. Admittedly I burst out laughing and dropped their vegetables on the floor as I was so surprised. They just gave me the most innocent look in return. I had recently taken the pellets away from them and I'm sure they did it to object the lack of pellets as they had eaten through the pellet bag. (Vet advice)
 
Do you have any spare grids or something you can put over the cage until morning? Long term he sounds like he is going to need a cover. Or maybe put the girls cage on a table or something so if he escapes again at least he cant reach the girls c&c.

Wow he sounds like a ninja piggie. Maybe he is the James Bond of the piggie world? :P
 
He is huge I just didn't think they could climb. I will post a pic of the naughty monkey so people can see how big he is. He's not fat just big all over. He was going to live with my girl group once neutered but now I know he can climb out and escape I'm going to have to rethink! I think he'll have to live in one of my higher levels with just one girl :(

I have too many cages the girls cage Is bottom of a c&c tower block so cannot be moved. I dont have grids for a lid so for tonight I am going to swap him for my two girls that are In a nero 4. Long term i will need to rethink :( there goes his chance for 4 wives!
 
Could you peg a fleece over the edge to keep him inside, a bit like the roofing over a football stadium?
Better move him to a cage he cannot escape from as easily (or be tempted as much) for the long term. Boars can be amazingly determined, cunning and athletic when it comes to getting at the girls - especially if one of them is in season or very close to it!
 
I have a climber too - I peg small towels / tea towels over the corners to form 'roof' areas. The corners seem to be the biggest risk areas. Hope you can pin him in for the night! You have to give him credit for initiative though;)

The thing is that now he has ruined his chances as a husboar of many wives. He will have to live in one of my higher cages which are 2x4 so can only have one wife :(

Have you got other sows and boars on the same level that he can jump in with? Once he has got his harem, he should be much less determined.

No I have bottom level which Is 6x3 currently split into 2 cages as I wanted him to get used to girls first next to them but it seems to have just upset him. Then above I have other groups so when he is safe it would only be him and his girls on bottom floor. Then above I have 2x4s on one side and then a nero 4 on stand forming L shape on other stand with another shop bought cage on top.
 
So you only need to make provisions for until he is safe to be with his girls?

Hopefully yes! I was putting It off with salt and all as I didnt want to add to my stress but I think I'll book him in and just get it sorted so he doesn't have to wait much longer! Other than the 6 weeks post op that is!
 
Joel gets funnier by the day. My niece came round for a guinea cuddle I got joel out and lacey (separetely) and brought them down for her. She had a cuddle of each of them ending with lacey. I had lacey first then joel (we swapped). My top must have really smelt of girl piggies as he started rumbling and getting excited on me! My niece is only 5 so I had to be careful what I said. I was like I think joel is excited as he wants to be laceys friend :lol!:

i dont think i liked it though and i swear i ended with boar glue on my hand :oops:
