What a sweetie, so glad she's getting the attention and treatment that she needs. They definitely should have their license taken away - will you report them?

i am reporting them. ive just been gathering my evidence together, and taking pics etc first i will hopefully be calling tonight

Awww bless her she is really sweet looking. No animal deserves to be treated badly.

Good luck with reporting them.

What are you calling her?

Aww thats nice.

Fingers crossed she makes a full recovery and that you get the result you want regarding the place she came from.

I know its been said alot of times but WELL DONE. O0

Hello Shia you're one beautiful little girlie :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Oh Lez how could those horrible >:( >:( >:( >:( :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: people do this to such a little sweetie, look at that face she's so 0:) :smitten:

thank you :smitten: :smitten:

she is very timid but still a chatterbox. my friend told me last night she was already wandering round the cage and wheeking :smitten:

i know its so sad isnt it glynis :'( she must not have been there long as she wasnt there last time i went to the shop, so 1-2 weeks max, so she must have been ill when the shop got her :tickedoff: i hate people who just see them as a money maker and not as a living breathing thing :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

good on you for helping the piggy! let us know what happens! x :smitten:

awww she is beautiful, I'm glad you got her out of that horrid garden centre.

Re: OMG update on shia the satin

just an update on shia, i havent reported the centre yet, as i have further concerns about shias health, and want to find out the full extent of her illness, as we aim to try and reclaim all vet bills from the pet shop if possible!

she was doing very well this week, but has deteriorated a bit today. her breathing is back to how it was when i picked her up, she is sneezing lots, and she is developing a head tilt, so i am calling the vets tomorrow and rearranging her next appointment for friday, as she wasnt supposed to go back until next thursday.

her ears are clearing up very well and she has gained a little weight.

here are piccies of her i took today when at my friends house

forgot to add, i know her ears look raggy, but believe me thats a big improvement. her ears were brown and scabby when i picked her up. they are now pink again and the scabs have almost gone. unfortunately this is what the infection has done to her poor ears

yes she has that unwell look about her poor baby. her ears look like my cat's ear when she clawed it as a kitten. the vet calls it a cauliflower ear. she does look better from the first pictures you posted. hoping the poor little mite gets better soon. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: will you be reporting the garden centre for their treatment of her and any past or future piggies they get in? sending shia and you and your friend hugs, good vibes and will keep shia in my prayers for a speedy recovery :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-* and bless you again for rescuing her. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

choloe i will definately be reporting the garden centre. i am waiting to see how her health develops first, as at the min i am very worried about whether she will pull through all this illness or not :'(

if she doesnt then i will be going for their licence to sell! and i will try and reclaim all the money we spnt on her. not that we dont like spending money on an animal in need, but if the shop had taken proper care of their animals it wouldnt have been necessary! imagine if an unsuspecting potential owner had gotten her and not known there was something wrong!

I would report them now. Unfortunately most councils and the RSPCA like to see the animals IN the situation and will do little if they don't see it for themselves. Perhaps if you offered to show them the pig now rather than when she was better it would have a better effect. Every minute they're not reported is time for them to sell more poor piggies to unsuspecting owners.

GO GIVE them HELL Lez and report them (sorry if i've gone overboard mods please modify if you want :embarassed:)
Poor little one this is so sad :'( :'( :'( :'( You guys are wonderful with all you've done already for little Shia :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
She does look a little better to the first piccies we saw :'( :'( :'( but i agree with Mary she still has that 'sick' look :( :( :( :(

Well done Lez :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I Have to agree with daftscotlass. Sometimes if they can actually visual see the guinea not just photos.
I brought twos sows a few years ago and they were covered in mites, which hads caused the one to scratch and get terrible scabbing, I rang the pet shop ands they paid the vets bill, treated the ones that were still for sale( they took them off sale for a few weeks while treating) and contacted the breeder to inform him they wouldnt buy from him again.

It sounds like the breeder isnt very good either, not just the shop .To sell a guinea to the shop in that condition isnt right

On a goods note - good for you, she looks like she will be a stunner! x and i love her name. :smitten:

didnt think of that dsl, ill do that then.

thing is they wouldnt come and see shia, because i live in derby, and the shop is in doncaster area.

i wouldnt want to take shia to doncaster for them to see her, as she is under enough stress as it is the poor thing :-\

from the piggies i have seen in that shop, it looks like the breeder is breeding pure breeds and sending the "rejected piggys" to the pet shop. as there were so many pure breed piggys in that shop, ive never seen so many in one shop! especially rex's. they have silver rex's in every time i go in there.

i know she would have been ill when the pet shop bought her in, but you could tell by looking at her that she was ill, so they shouldnt have taken her. and when they did they should have given her vet treatment, instead of loking her in a tank on her own to die (although better on her own than with all those rabbits, like the other piggies were)

I think the bottom line is that they sold a sick animal, which is against the law. Hopefully you wouldn't have to take the piggy to them, if the RSPCA were involved they would possibly send an inspector your way to see your piggy if they wanted to investigate.

i know, when i got merlin i gave them the benefit of the doubt, becuase under all that hair, even i didnt notice his state til i got him home.

ill call the rspca tonight, and get the details for the council. ill have to contact 2 councils due to wierd boarders so I'm not sure if it will be doncaster council, or nottinghamshire council

i still have all receipts etc as proof of where i got her too, as well as vet bills

I've just read through this - what a horrible situation. How the little gem doing today? any more signs of head tilt? hopefully its an inner ear infection that the ABs she's on will sort out & not something that is going to be a permanant condition with her. (well not hopefully - you know what I mean!).
You've really got to kick ass with these places unfortunately to get anywhere. Just think of all the other Guineas you'll be helping by getting this horror shop reported.
Keep us posted.

shia just got back from the vets.

her chest has actually cleared, but she has a bad ear infection now, which esplains the head tilt. basically all her sinuses are playing up which is why her breathing is bad.

her nose is stuffed up, and the left side of her face is the worst. she keeps scratching inside her left ear, and her lieft eye is red and watery.

also her poo hasnt improved, the vet said her gut felt awful. she was already on pro biotic

she is still on baytril, she also is now on metacam, and is being syringe fed critical care. the vet wants her back in 5 days to monitor her very closely, so we are booked in again for wednesday

also i have just reported to the rspca

not contacted the council yet, but have reported it to rspca and they are going to send an officer over.

my vets said they would be willing to speak to them on the phone to provide backing evidence of shias condition too

that is great new lez about the rspca and your vet backing you up O0 also great news her chest sounds better hoping the ear infection and her tummy gets better. i so know about upset tummies :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: sending you both hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: sending good vibes and prayers for shia and the girls send :-* :-* :-* you and your friend are angels for rescuing her. O0 give this shop heaps 666) 666) 666) keep us posted. :smitten:

That is horriable for a guinea pig to be living in that condition. You are being really nice to do this for the porr little guinea pig i am sure you will get it back to its right state very well! GOOD LUCK TO YOU!! ;)

all i can say is good on you for giving this little piggie a chance of having a nice life. You should be so proud of yourself. x
