Ok so this is going to sound like a daft question but if a sow is on heat, how can you tell? Do they produce anything from their female bits is what I really would like to no?

I don't think so. Often they strut and rumble, like a boar would if he could smell a female.

Some people say that some sows bleed just a little when in season, but *personally* I've not come across that.

Me neither. I have two sows each living with a neutered boar.
The neutered boar seems to know when they are in season (as you would expect ;)).
Apart from a physical "bottom in the air" type of sign when a boar approaches them instead of a "bog off" to the boar by the sow most of the other time, then I can't say I would know.

I will be interested to know other members views.
