Hi :) One of the pair of males I have passed away this morning :( He was 3. Yesterday afternoon I noticed his squeak sounded 'rough' but was still eating and drinking. Lastnight I put some apple in for them and he didn't want it. This morning I was going to make a vets appointment, but he had not long passed away :( So I'm a bit worried about the other boy - do I just keep an eye on him and if anything changes get an emergency appointment?
Any advice gratefully received :)

I am so sorry for your loss. You are welcome to post a tribute in the rainbow bridge section. I would take your little one for a check up to ensure he is well and there was nothing contagious.

PS what do I do now regarding loneliness? Will he be ok on his own, or do I need to get him a little friend? Thanks :)

Hi! I am very sorry for your loss!

Please keep a very close eye on his friend. We have got tips in this thread here: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/looking-after-a-bereaved-piggy.110463/

Unfortunately, in your case it is advisable to wait 2-3 weeks (quarantine period) until you introduce any new friends to your bereaved boy, unless you are dealing with a rare case of acute pining (an in that case, you will need to have him checked for URI asap first). that way, you make sure that nothing is carried over. The safest way is to date at one of our recommended piggy savvy rescues that have a mandatory quarantine and a good standard of care. Sadly, not all rescues offer boar dating at the rescue under expert supervision, so you may have to ring round during the quarantine period. I can provide rescue contacts in some other countries, if wished.
