Hey everyone,

I have a new piggy. Only her right ear has a dry patch. It is only on the top inside ridge. It looks dry, but it doesn't look scaly. When I got her, she was alone in a warm quarantined cage. Do you guys think it could be dry skin? Ring worm? Ear mites? I would take a picture, but her ear doesn't show anything. It only feels dry.

I have started her on ear mite medication (just in case). But if this crusty doesn't go away in 2 days, I plan on taking her to the vet.

We don’t recommend treating on spec at home. Please get her seen by a Vet for formal diagnosis & the correct treatment.

The ear medicine I’ve been givin has been previously approved by the vet. The vet gave me ear drops and she said it will get rid of ear mite, and it also will work as a preventive for ear mites. So it’s safe to use if they have ear mites or not.

I understand that @Annie Robbins but as I understand it the vet has not yet seen this piggy to give a diagnosis. So on that basis we would not recommend treating anything until the vet has seen the piggy. The reason for this is that the treatment you give (while it may not make things worse) may mask or partially treat the problem, making it more difficult for the vet to get the right diagnosis.
