Hi all, I have been reading a lot of good informations here on the forum for months now, and finally I have a question to ask.

My 4 months old sow just delivered her baby 4 days ago (totally shocked as we bought her 2 months ago only). On Sunday I woke up seeing her baby next to her, the mother and baby were so so cute.

However, after monitoring the baby for 4 days now, I realised her right eye is fully developed but her left eye is kind of looks a bit flat compare to the right. Also, I notice she keeps blinking or twitching as it looks uncomfortable. May I know is this usual for new born that her eye is not fully developed yet? or is this a sign of genetic issues?

1) Attached some photos here for the eye.
2) I think its a textbook boy? I am I correct on the gender?

Any advice is appreciated, thank you so much!

Hallo and :wel: to the forum. Sorry to hear that you have worries as a result of pet shop or breeder mis-sexing leading to your buying a pregnant sow.

The small eye could be due to something having got in it, which would need a vet visit to remove the thing and to prescribe healing eye drops. But if your baby is all white, and has red eyes, she could be what is commonly known as a "lethal white", this is a genetic condition caused by both parents carrying a faulty gene. The babies often have small eyes or other eye problems, and/or dental problems. There is a section in the guides all about lethals but I don't know where to find it.

It would be best for you to have your piggies checked at a competent vet to diagnose the problem properly and get the right treatment if relevant. The medical experts on here can then advise you further if you need it.

Hi

Please have the eye vet checked. In newborns, this can be ingrown lashes (piggies have tiny ones, which when left untreated can eventually lead to blindness from scratching the cornea too badly) or from something stuck under a lid. Pulled in eyes are a sign of pain.

And yes, he is most definitely a boy with a very nice round penis shaft button in the correct size. :tu:

Thanks for the reply. The pup has black eyes, they are not red and not watery. I cannot see if there is anything that got in.
That's good. I hope the vet will be able to find what is wrong with your baby.

If you got the mum from a shop, you are within your rights to demand help with your unexpected baby, as a pregnant sow is not what you paid for. They should at the very least pay for vet checks and treatment as the baby needs it.
