Today we took in 14 boars and 4 sows! Unfortunately all have repiratory problems to some degree, are underweight and one was fitting on arrival.

Luckily having the medical box on hand all are calm eating drinking and in nice warm hutching and have been treated with appropriate medicines. This was a rescue of 40 animals in total. The others have gone to a friends sanctuary.

They are clear of mange mites etc but are not in the best condition. I think we are going to be very busy!! All the boars are luckily doing well in groups so far but the building of hutches continues just in case.

Hopefully with good food and housing all will recover...had one heck of a day though malletheadgrrrr@)

What a mad day - you must be exhausted. It's mentally and physically draining on days like this and it's only just the start, poor you.

I hope you have loads of help around, with all your existing pigs that is alot of cleaning out to do.

It's great to know that they are all safe and sound with you now though - I know how much work you have ahead of you so just offering my support - as one rescue to another. Keep us posted, take care xx

Well done for taking all of them in. You're going to be busy! Hope the respiratory problems settle.

well done to you! its nice to know there are people out there looking after those poor piggys. sending hugs and kisses to the pigs and hope they get better soon.

Have a good rest, i am sure you will sleep well tonight!

Well we got through the night a few of the guineas have severe chest rattles due to suspected ammonia inhilation and infection but all are looking much brighter this morning.

The fitting guineas are doing well which is a big relief although still have slight head tilts.

No fighting or nastiness so these are sociable boys ( thank goodness making 18 single cages would have done me in!)

The list goes as follows:

Choc and white, and pink eyed white young boars

An adult male fox boar who has the worst chest problems by far

5 boys - 4 adult one juvenile
Cream
dark argente
light argente
black
a juvenile chinchilla (silver)

3 adult boys
PE whites ( one with crest) one of these fitted in my friends hands as we were getting them in hutches but is doing well

2 adults and 1 adolescent
Dark argente (arrived with head tilt after fitting in transit)
Light argente (was forgotten in a footwell when the were dropped off and arrived here at 5pm having had 4 hours in a tiny box with no food or water:o but is doing well)
Adolescent chinchilla boar

4 sows
Two argente adolescent sows (possible pregnant)
Chin and white sow (very probably pregnant)
A PE white sow that has had a stroke (probably some time ago given her state and appears to have probably littered recently)

Pics to follow when they have all settled in.

Thank you for all your words of kindness and support once some pics can be taken the naming process will begin I might need some help?/ thinking up names is not my forte. I got very little sleep last night as the piggies needed a lot of liquid therapy and treatment so a day at home with the guineas, tidying up and genrally putting everything back in order for me now the little ones are over the worst.

ETA- some sections removed (pm for reason if you wish)

Well done! Thank goodness for people like you! Whereabouts are you? I'd be interested in the pew sow, I know she's had a stroke, but I'd love to care for her and give her the love she deserves. x

http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=24195&page=2 I've put pigtures of my cage with my four girls in this thread. See what you think. It's 3by6, with an extra cube on the side that's now filled with a house. We have 4 houses and three big cardbord tubes. Pheobe rarely uses these! x

What an awful story. Unfortunately my opinion of ***** is going down following some dealings I have had with them. They took a guinea pig to my local vets. They contacted me knowing that I foster for Jill. Apparently they told the vet 'they did not deal in small furries'. Obviously we took the piggie and she has since been rehomed. However, when she was originally taken to the vets, the vet was told not to rehome her as the owners were under investigation. When trying to establish the position with the *****, they had NO note of her on the system, despite the vet having had numerous conversations with them about her.

Well done you - if i could find a smiley patting a back, i would post one for you !

Oh well done Vicki!

I have recently taken on another two from the ***** - which are in lovely condition and procedure has improved (they got health checks before we left and I have copies of the vet reports) However one of the prevous piggies that I have adopted from them had mites and was VERY skinny - could feel back bone, ribs, hips etc. She soon put on weight again with some TLC.

I have sent you an e-mail as I am desperate for your advice to a situation - hope you can help, in a right tiswas!

Well Done Vicki for taking them all in. You have done a fantasic job! I wish you all the luck with them.

Emma x

I'm so glad that you have taken in these piggies...Where would we be without all the kind people who run rescues....That awful ***** person needs reporting...Horrible man

What a horrid ***** man? I find shocking to think that someone with that attitude is working at saving animals from cruelty. He definitely needs reporting- there are hundreds of people that would jump at the chance of his job.

Well done Vikki for taking on all those piggies. They all look so adorable in the pictures.

Is this the sow which you think has had a stroke?

Many moons ago I used to have a Cinnamon agouti sow and she used to walk around similar to this, I had her from being very young and it only started since when she was around a year old. I always assumed she had had a stroke.

Emma x

Yes Emma this little girl has had a stroke, the others with head tilts have them due to worm problems i suspect but this lass definately had a stroke.

What a difference two days can make! This little guy is such a fighter he has puss on the lungs due to a severe infection which will result in permanent lung damage in the vets opinion but just look at him munch! I am so proud of this little fellow he is not giving up. His first arrival photos made him look so weak which he was I did not think he would last the night but here he is just two days after being here and on treatment for the infection:

Well done, you are doing a grand job!

btw - did you get my e-mail about wanting a sow? (I bet your'e rushed off your feet at the mo though!)

Yup I did :) I will give you a ring when things settle here a bit if thats ok we do have one sow that would be suitable but she has only been here 4 weeks and arrived in with a young male that could have got her pregnant so will not be available until we are definate she is not pregnant. sophiew (sophie on my site www.guineaipg-rehoming-norfolk.co.uk ) has some sows ready now so might be worth getting in touch with her as I think she is more local to you as well. She is on holiday at the moment but will be back soon her e-mail is on the site just look at sophies page :)
