Hi every one I'm new to this forum. I'm hoping I can get some advice.
I have 6 guinea pigs. 4 are boys and were rescues that I took in back in december. They were found abandoned in a house.
I went to check my boy guinea pigs this morning to check on them and feed them. 3 ran over to greet me like normal but teddy ( he is a Himalayan Guinea pig) was just sitting in a corner not moving and seemed lethargic.
I picked him up and he moved a bit but not much and just wanted to lie on his side. I put him in a separate enclosure and he ate some hay and when I offered him water he drank fine.
I have offered him food and he has been taking bits of veg. And I have mashed up some Guinea pig food with water and syringed it to him and he has taken it fine.
I left him to rest but when came back he looked like he was fitting or have a seizure or something, made some strange sounds like he was gasping, then went limp lying on his side. I thought he had died but on checking him he was still breathing.
I have had him on my lap and he just lied there for quiet a while in my arms whilst I stroked him.
He has now started to move around again now and is slowly gaining some energy. He is still drinking. He is eating pellets at moment and seems hungry but is eating slow.
He is pooping fine his poo is normal and formed.
What could be wrong does any one have any ideas.
I wanted to take him to vets but only vet near is currently closed, due to coronavirus.
Dont know what to do and am rather worried.
I'm going to keep syring feeding him and will give him water by hand from bottle to make sure he drinks. Is there any thing else I can do.
Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome!

Please google for vets in your wider area that may still be open and contact them for advice.
He may have acute heart failure, heart attacks, strokes or seizures. It is impossible for us to tell.

Here is our comprehensive emergency advice: Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

I am very sorry for the horrible timing!

Wiebke thank you for your reply. I have phoned around vets further away and have not been able to get one to see him today but one vet said they would phone me first thing in morning as they might be able to see him in morning.

He seems a bit better tonight. He is moving around a bit more but still not him self. He is eating and drinking which is hopefully a good sign.

Will probably stay up to keep an eye on him tonight.

Good luck getting him to a vet tomorrow.
In our area many vets are closing for standard cases but most will still see emergencies.
I hope your boy is feeling better soon.
