My daughter and I woke up to our three year old male, Boston dead this morning. He showed no signs of illness, he was eating, drinking and playing just last night. We got him about six months ago, because I troll Craigslist from time to time looking to see if there are any guinea pigs that are clearly being treated poorly. I was drawn to him- we drove two hours south to get him, and since he has been with us, he has lived like a King. When we got him he was not used to being held, he would bite a little, and he had zero social skills. He quickly changed, and was the biggest, happiest goofball. We are so upset, we really wanted to give him the life he deserved. We have two other gpigs, a 2 year old and an 8 year old- This is our first pet we have lost. I dont' know what to do with his body. Does anyone have any recommendations? I live in an apartment, so burial here would be super tricky. I want to have a little ceremony so my daughter has closure, and Boston is sent off with love and prayers. Any ideas that any of you have would be very welcomed. Thank you!

Hi and welcome!

I am very sorry for your loss. Sadly, heart attacks or strokes can hit at any age out of the blue. They leave you very upset and with many questions. It is not something that you can prepare or brace for. :(

You are welcome to post a tribute to Boston in our Rainbow Bridge section if you would like a bit of an official memorial with pictures and his story for him. Rainbow Bridge Pets

You may find that a pet cremation is working best for your requirements. These centres usually offer a choice of containers in which the ashes are returned to you.
Here is a link to an advertised pet crematorium in Boston. www.forget-me-notpetcrematory.com/
There may also be a list for recommended pet cremation services on Yelp, depending on where in Massachusetts you live.
I have no idea how much a guinea pig cremation would cost in the US, so you will have to enquire. From my experience in the UK, prices can vary enormously, and some are outrageous. It is often cheaper to use a crematorium directly.

So sorry for your loss :( please find comfort in the fact that you have him a great life while you had him! I had my piggy Whinny cremated it was $60 (us)
