Hi! I'm new-ish to getting guinea pigs and my parents believe that my pig will be happy alone. I've tried explaining to them why she needs a friend but they just won't listen. We almost got a friend a month or two ago(I started a forum about name ideas if anyone remembers), but sadly we couldn't get her. Does anyone have any advice? ( My parents seem to understand she needs a friend, but are trying to put it off)

Do you know why they're reluctant to get a second piggy? Is it cost or space?

they think it will be too hard to clean after a second piggie

Two guinea pigs need the same miminal welfare space as one (2x4 ft minimal ground floor space), they are much happier and tend to be healthier when they have company. They are not making more work as you should clean your cage twice a week anyway and poo patrol a fleece cage daily, irrespective of the number of guinea pigs. ;)

Update: I sat and talked with my parents and we decided that next Saturday we would get a new guinea pig after showing articles and videos about it! Thank you guys for all of the facts and advice.

That's fantastic. Be sure to read up on bonding (some brilliant help in the forum section) to give your piggies the best chance, or if you have a rescue which does dating near you, this is by far the best solution. Looking forward to seeing pics of your piggies!
