so our pet shop piggy has a cough and sneeze. I’m taking her to vets later today. Could the other one also have it? Would rather get her treated too if needed.

@Pigmamma It's not always the case that both will be ill, but it never harms taking both along to the vet just to be on the safe side.

Sometimes these things can be contagious, though often new arrivals have several factors (i.e. young age, stress of moving to a new home, etc.) that make them more susceptible to respiratory infections and older, more settled pigs may have better immunity. That said, it will probably be less stressful for your new pig to travel with a friend to the vet and that way you can have both assessed at once, so I would probably take them both.

Best have both checked. URI is a transmittable bacterial infection, but guinea pigs with a fully working immune system can often fend it off. Most at risk are the young, the frail, pregnant and elderly as well as outdoors guinea pigs and piggies that have been put on the lawn too soon and for too long.

It is much less stressful for your piggies to take a bonded pair to the vets anyway.

If your piggies are outdoors piggies, please make sure that they are properly insulated; guinea pigs don't cope well with weather extremes and quick temperature swings (including day and night time variations).

They are indoor piggies bless them and I took them both along. They are both treated for URI with baytril and metacam although the vet said it could be stress. They have fleece in cage no wood shavings so that’s good. Thanks everyone for helping .
