We have had some quite momentous developments over the last week. Since Telyn's death, Taffy and Tegyd, my two cataract girls, have started to bond closely. Sadly, Tegyd has never become comfortable around so many piggies and her still rather aggressive behaviour had started to impact on the Tribe. When I put Taffy, Tegyd and Hywel in the already cleaned upstairs and blocked the access to the ramp in order to avoid any bust ups while I was busy, the result was... peace. Utter blessed peace!

That got me thinking. So over the last 2-3 days I have been test driving the new arrangement to see whether it would work out as it meant dividing the Tribe and time share the living room, something I had been so far loathe to do. Although Hywel actually made a good trio with Taffy and Tegyd, he has really emerged as a true leader over the last few weeks, and those qualities would be lost if I kept him with my blind girls.

So today Taffy and Tegyd went on a visit to "auntie" Tracy at RNGP Welfare rescue in Rugby for some neutered boar dating. In view of Tegyd's track record, I had braced myself for going through all three candidates at the rescue and if necessary onto the next closest rescues with neutered boars in Walsall and Redditch - but MIRACLES HAPPEN!

Taffy and Tegyd accepted the first (and my favourite) candidate straight away! They spent a full hour in the bonding pen with an ecstatic Chapati and not a single sign of aggression, even though small and very shy Chapati had clearly no idea which way to tackle girls! But in the presence of ladies he finally found his voice and mojo and showed a delighted Tracy that he could actually popcorn - rumble popcorn at that!
Incidentally, Chapati has been rescued by Jenny from Crawley Rescue (same as Tegyd) and then fostered by furryfriends for RNGP Welfare, so by sheer coincidence he stays very much "in the family". I have rehomed my Dizzy (RIP) from Tracy back in 2007.

During the bonding session at the rescue (video, please click on the picture):

Chapati is now Terfel (spoken Tervel). His new name means "oak prince"; I thought it suited him best because of his little ginger crown, and it was also Tracy's first choice.

Here is a short clip of the end of Terfel's first popcorn in the converted cage. No problems at all with him moving in with the girls!

Later in the afternoon, we had a short photoshoot to get a look at the man himself:

This little clip shows how attached my cataract girls have actually become. Jenny had offered me to take Tegyd back in order to keep the Tribe together, but I didn't want to let her go. She has grown close to my and, more importantly, Taffy's heart.

And here is a last clip of the first shared dinner:

The Tribe (minus Taffy and Telyn) have gone back to their old life with relish:

All in all, I am ever so pleased with the outcome, knowing that I have found a way to make all my piggies happy again with minimal changes to the layout of the cage and the life of the old Tribe!

Wow what a week you and the tribe have had! I'm so pleased peace has finally been found and all the pigs are happy.

Terfel is such a handsome boar, he must be a very happy boy with his two gorgeous ladies. They all look so proud and beautiful as a mini tribe.
:) x)

Well little man, you've certainly come out of your shell now you have girlies around! Wiebke, I am absolutely thrilled that you have adopted him. He was with me for quite a long time and I became very attached to him. He's such a loving and sweet natured little guy, but he always seemed very quiet. I can see the girls are going to be so good for him.

Please give him a big kiss from me, and tell him that auntie Debbie is so happy that he has got such lovely ladyfriends.

I will!

Such a happy story - and such a handsome lad. I'm so pleased for everybody. (Had myself a little weep - in a nice kind of way)

I realy do love a happy ending. I'm so glad things have turned around for The Tribe's future happiness. How is Hywel coping with the nearby presence of another boar?

Oh wow, what a lovely development. Am so pleased it has all worked out so well. Terfel is beautiful.

So far he lives in blissful ignorance... :))

Oh my what a wonderful 'story' - so glad you have adapted your tribe to suit the welfare and happiness of the individual piggies... and a new little rescue boy has found the most brilliant home. :)

Look forward to getting regular updates of Terfel and his girls ;)

Terfel is actually an adult, about 18 months old, but quite small and submissive. I am so happy that Tegyd and Taffy got on with him so well; he is just the right personality and age for two girls going blind.

I think that you are one amazing person to go through everything you have done in order to keep Tegyd and provide a loving home for her.

I never imagined that you would take a piggy out of the tribe but Taffy looks so happy with her new friends and taking in to account her not so good past before rescue, her blindness and the recent loss of her daughter, I can see good things ahead for Taffy :)

Terfel is stunning and I think it is lovely that you are providing a very bright future for Tegyd.

You have 2 groups of very happy piggies x

Awwwww! I got to have cuddles with this little chap while he was on his holidays at Debbie's. Such a sweet pig, so very cuddly - he just laid down straight away! I'm glad he's got the chance for a wonderful life with you now and from the evidence so far, he's bouncing around with a smile on his face!:))x)

Thats great! what a lovely trio of piggies!

Did Tracy reckon he was that old then? I thought he was younger (under a year) but it could just have been that he was so underweight when he came to me that he looked tiny. He was just over 700g when he arrived but gained weight steadily.

He loved cuddles. He was always so happy to see you Emma because he knew it meant lots of cuddles! x)

Beautiful! I watched all the videos and think that he has settled in so well and I'm sure he will be very spoilt with his new wives and his slave :)) x

What gorgepus girls and what a gorgeous new addition you have! love the new video - I'm so glad they took to each other!

That is what Tracy's guess is. He's now about 950g, so he has gained steadily. The presence of his two ladies will hopefully improve his appetite no end! I definitely did for Hywel! :))

So far, I have had just had a couple of short cuddles with Terfel, as I want him to settle into his new life as best as possible, but he is a real sweetie!

Now he's got two beautiful ladies to cuddle, I doubt he's going to be so bothered about cuddles with humans:)) I'm so pleased he's got such a happy life now. He looked such a sad, poorly boy when he arrived here.

Taffy has already started to take him under her wing - as long as he's not naughty, that is! ;)

Oh Wiebke! This is brilliant news, i'm really pleased you've managed to keep all the piggies happy and to see another new addition! He is one handsome boar! Looking forward to seeing him blossom with his two wives xx>>>
