Hi,

I just wondered if anyone has any advice on how to put one pig in a herd on a diet?

7 of my girls are 1-1.2kg

And then there is Blanche.... Who weighs in at nearly 1.7kg

Many Thanks

er crikey...well I think it depends on the breed of the piggy, some piggies are naturally bigger than others. My lovely little Marmalade was clearly a runt and was so tiny, alternatively Bruno is my biggest male now, and out of the girls I reckon Tilly would give any of the girls and boys for a good running in the weigh stakes.

Unless it's really visible, like a human, whereby you have rolls of fat around her neck and shoulders region (that's where I see the extra fat) then I wouldn't worry because it could be she's just that way. If you see any displays perhaps where Blanche is clearly noming all the food before the others then that might be a problem, but with the quantity of food bowls required for that many (if they are all together) I would doubt it.

No they all happily eat together with no arguments which I know I'm lucky to have in such a big herd!

There are no extra rolls on her. Just a rather robust shape in general!

So it could just be her breed. Naturally we'd love to see photo's, because we all love to drool over piggy shoots.:drool::love:

Blanche is gorgeous. :love: She doesn't look overweight in that photo, but photo's can be deceptive!

Until recent years when people have started breeding cuys and crossing them with other pigs, I would have said that any pig weighing 1.7kg was obese. Now its harder to know without actually seeing the piggy. That said, she definitely looks overweight in the second photo. Is she a longer pig than your others?

we have had two piggies at 1.5 kg Neither were overweight... they had very big frames.

Without seeing Blanche in the fur so to speak it is hard to tell off photos, the 2nd photo looked a little overweight but she could be pancaking out there a little. Is she active? By the way she is :drool: such a pretty girl

I will say, I've never considered her length until now but I do think she is actually longer?

Both of my boys weigh roughly the same, but one feels much skinnier when he's handled because he's physically much longer than the other - if he were to bulk out like his buddy I don't think 1.7kg would be a high weight for him.

That bit of length can make so much difference.

I have to say....Blanche is :love::drool:

I agree, in the first pic, she looks totally fine and the second one she's letting it all hang out - so to speak. She looks so comfy too.:))
