Good afternoon, my one week old pig seems itchy and has some hair loss around its face, I can't get it to a vet until Monday as my vet is now closed - does any one know anything I could use just to soothe the itching for now? Unfortunately I am unable to tell whether the itching is from parasites or fungal infection :help:

It sounds like fungal, but it is far too young to be treated at home, it is better to see the vet as soon as you are able too. Is it still with it's mum & siblings? I would take them all along, just to be checked out :)

Yeh that's what I was thinking, it's too young for stuff I've used on my big pigs. Yes it's with mum and mums friend so I'll take them too - family outing :-) I will make an appointment for Monday morning, it's a shame I missed surgery times today :hb: Thanks for the advice xx

I see you are based in Thatcham? Not sure which vet you use but in Tilehurst you have two brilliant guinea savvy vets (Jenny Towers and Sally at tilehurst vets in school road) for ones so young I would get them to Sally or jenny. Chrissie from Gorgeous Guineas is also based in tilehurst so I would also recommend speaking to her after the holidays. She can work magic!

You may already know the above but just in case you did'nt :D

Baby's condition has stumped my usual vet so I have left a message for Jenny from Tilehurt vets to call me ASAP as I hear she is very good :)

That's great, she is really very good and has worked miracles on many of mine. Healing vibes for your little one!

I hope that you can get knowledgeable help soon! these mystery things always seem to happen when just before or during bank holidays!

Ain't that the truth! He thinks babys hair cycle stopped suddenly and is therefore causing hair to fall out, theres no trauma to skin indicating mange etc so he wants me to observe its condition For 2 weeks but I'm not happy with that and would prefer a 2nd opinion x

If you cannot get hold of jenny then Sally Ward is as good. Both at the same location.
