I was away for a week, my guinea pigs were staying at my mums
On my return, one of my pigs looked terrible, really skinnny, runny eye and ear full of wax.

I took him to the vet, who immediately trimmed his teeth (I don't think this was an issue) and gave him antibiotic to use.

He was eating small amounts, mainly grass. Some veg not a lot. His teeth at this point were now wonky. After a week his eye looked slightly better, I'd trimmed away his hair from his eyes but he wasn't perfect. His teeth grew but weren't meeting so I took him back to the vet. Who said he'll take out his front teeth, gp don't need these teeth, I wasn't happy to do this so he cut them - really short!
I literally have to cut everything into tiny mouth size pieces and hand feed him, he can only eat when I'm around to help him, I have to feed him a blade of grass at a time because he can't do it himself! It's been a week, he looks terrible, I feel terrible, I've been offering recover which he licks from a plate- it's been a month of this - his top incisors look perfect, his bottom teeth are still too short. His back teeth were good in the beginning, but concerned now this will be the next problem.

I've restarted antibiotics as he is now sneezy and snotty, he has eye drops for his eye... please help, what can I do to help this poor creature!

Hi ad welcome!

Please see another vet that is more piggy savvy as soon as possible! Front teeth are what a guinea pig picks up and cuts food with. With a properly balanced dental system, they are self sharpening.
The crusty eyes and mucky ear point to a respiratory infection that has potentially gone into the ear. Has your vet checked for that? What kind of antibiotic and how long for have you been given?

Please switch to syringe feeding, little but often, as much as you can get in in one go. Take the time to carefully read our illustrated step-by-step guide, so you can prep the syringe tip properly. The guide also tells you how much to feed; it is likely more than you would expect.

Piggies don't need their front teeth? :yikes:

I would definitely find a more piggy savvy vet, I've had to switch vets several times. Even one that was recommended actually didn't know a lot about pigs. It's hard to be a vet yourself so you need to be able to trust them 100% which is sometimes hard.

Good luck to you and furbaby :)

I know this may be difficult but there is an amazing dental vet in Northampton Simon Maddock, who works at the Cat and Rabbit Clinic he works with @furryfriends (TEAS) with the piggies at her dental sanctuary, I am mentioning this because you piggy sounds in a really bad way :( I am sorry you are going through this

maybe it would be even useful a list with the names of the worst and craziest vets! :sly::rtm:
I have heard the most absurd stories, but the adventure of your poor little piggie is terrible... victim of the ignorance of a doctor. Sorry, but I always write and say what I think it is true.
My advice? go to that Simon, your money won't be wasted.
Of course what happened is NOT your fault, but we sometimes should learn to say NO with no hesitation, when something sounds too weird and suspicious to our brain...
It may happen even to us: many years ago a surgeon wanted to cut off both breasts of my sister-in-law. No cancer... only because of some benign cysts. She went to Milano, where there is one of the best oncologic centres and they literally jumped from the chair when knew all the story. They suggested my sister in law a different approach, style of life and eating and since then my relative is cysts free and with both breasts.
Doctors are not Gods, but some of them feel like that...
hugs!:luv:
