Poor Effie has had soft poop off and on for a few weeks now. I'll try and give a quick back story..

Noticed soft poop one morning after I had already fed morning veggies. Did not give any further veg for quite a while. Poops returned to normal after a few days, but I didnt give veg for about a week. Slowly started to introduce veg and soft poop unfortunately returned so I took her to the vet. We were only able to see a regular vet as opposed to an exotic at that time. The vet gave some recovery food as her weight had dropped and some fibreplex. Effies poo started to get better again, so after a few days, I started to introduce veg again and bam.. soft poo again. I thought i must have introduced veg too quick (even though I took it slowly) so stopped them for a few days and then started up again. A few days later more soft poo! This time it was after i introduced cucumber so I assumed that was the issue as I was pretty sure it was after cucumber last time too. So stopped veg AGAIN and started back up a few days later. In the meantime, I ordered some benebac as we had run out of fibreplex but I've just noticed soft poo again so I'm going to take her to the vet tomorrow!

Our exotic vet is not in on a Saturday so its going to have to be a regular vet again! Can anyone advise on what this could be so that I can ensure the vet covers all options and is thorough? I did think one evening that she felt a teeny bit bloated and I gave her some gripe water, massages and lots of run around and that seemed to have gone by the next morning. Could a gassy stomach have something to do with it? It seems to be when I introduce a whole portion of veggies, but shes never had an issue before.

Poops arent sloppy, they are just a bit mis shapen and softer if squeezed. Could I be still going too fast with introducing veg back into her diet? She has half her allowance morning and evening so I introduced one piece per day, e.g.
Day 1 morning corriander
Day 1 evening corriander
Day 2 morning corriander and green pepper
Day 2 evening corriander and green pepper
Day 3 morning corriander, pepper and green bean
And so on...

Hi!

Can you please remind me how old Effie is now? Older piggies can develop a much more tender digestion.
Your vet may also consider wether a course of panacur (worming) might be helpful.

Bloating and funny poos are related; they point towards the natural fermentation process being unbalanced.

Have you tried 'poo soup' with literally freshly dropped poos from a healthy companion? If absolutely fresh, you can transfer healthy cavy gut microbiome to an ill piggy giving it exactly the 'right stuff' for its digestion twice daily. If done properly, it is more effective than probiotics and fibreplex. You can find the exact preparation details in this guide here: Probiotics, Recovery Foods And Vitamin C: Overview With Product Links

Thank you!

She is approximately 4.5, so not overly old.

I thought of possible parasites, but then thought against it as the poop seems to soften when introducing veg and returns to normal without the veg and didnt think that would be the case with worms. Have you had any experience in that area? I've never wormed her.

I was swaying towards possible bloating issues, but wasn't sure whether it would affect poop, so thanks for clearing this. I will mention that to the vet tomorrow. What medicines should I expect to receive if she does think it could be bloat related?

I did try poo soup but only did it once a day for a few days as then got fibreplex off the vet. I will restart it though. Am I okay to continue the benebac alongside the poop soup? Also i have some pro C that i give when I'm not feeding her veggies. Can i give that also? Thank you

Panacur is not necessarily just for worms but can also be used for an overgrowth of bad bacteria in drawn out cases of digestive issues; please do not treat on spec and discuss with your vet.
